I think Fabbri is probably done at this point and Yzerman knows it. He's never been able to stay healthy for any length of time in his career... I do feel for the guy. But Detroit needs to move on.
I can't help but think both Veleno and Zadina are prime trade bait at this point. For sure this team now has more toughness and grit with Kostin and Fischer. Probably at least as good offensively (most likely better) than Veleno and Zadina... but we'll see.
I'm not crazy about the term of JT Comphor... but I like the player and his versatility. I'm betting he takes the #2 center job... thus pushing Copp to #3 (where he belongs) and Berggren to #4. I think he will make this team better for the next few years. Rasumussen needs to stay on the wing as far as I'm concerned and I hope LaLonde keeps him there.
Strong and Ghost are both 1 year contracts... so if they don't pan out they are gone at the end of next season. Might be worth a draft pick if they have decent seasons.
The contract I dislike the most is Holl... I just don't think he's worth the money or the term. Even though he has size and logs a lot of minutes.. I'm still wondering how he makes the defense better... I'm not seeing it. I did hear he is a good penalty killer. Really wanted to get Dumba added to our team... but I'm wondering if he's already crossed Detroit off his list.
As for goaltending I like the Lyon signing. He should at least get an opportunity to take the backup job from Reimer. The goaltending in GR has been absolutely terrible... so any new person down there is an improvement. Looking forward to seeing Cossa play in GR this year. Really want to see the Griffins in the playoffs... the coaching change was long overdue. |

I can say that this is the most positive take I’ve seen in a day. I think time will smooth some of this out. Fabbri gives, but the injury bug takes. Hoping days ahead restore some of the lost optimism. Thanks for the take, much appreciated |

You make an interesting point with the Lyon/Reimer situation. The
signings that have been made so far are certainly not flashy by any means but they will create internal competition throughout the lineup which should hopefully lead to improvement from within.
We have also clearly seen how important culture is to Yzerman and I would have to believe the players he brought in fit within that vision.
A big trade may have sped up the goal of reaching the playoffs but building a team that can sustain a competitive window of chasing the cup has to be, and also appears to be, the goal. That may take a bit longer but I think we can all live with that if it does come together.
At this point I have no reason to doubt Yzerman and his decision-making group. And keep in mind, Pierre Dorion seemed to ace the off-season last year and we all saw how that worked out.
As naive as I may appear to be, I still believe!! |

Yep... let's all take a deep breath and see how the dust settles. We don't know everything that is going on behind the scenes as Yzerman and crew are wheeling & dealing. We have more assets now for a trade that might bring in a top tier player.
I read a rumor that Tarasenko is looking at contending teams. No updates on Dumba (my last hope). Still wondering if Stevie is pushing hard for a trade. I'm thinking Travis Konecny is not going to get traded at this point and stay with Philly. Could change by the trade deadline. |

Sir Alec Guinness as Obi Wan is my final hope, and I wasn’t 1 yet when that happened. I think there is still an internal struggle that things may be “a few pieces away” as well as people who genuinely do their own scouting (as best as able). While we don’t have it, we saw Colorado move on from Duchene, ROR, Stastny as those were thought to be the blocks of the new contender. They helped make strides, but total turnover and high picks. Deep cleansing breaths are needed. I really want to see the “player led skates” but those are hard to get access to. There are 3 rinks I can check around (look like a stalker) that I know get reserved/used by Wings during the summer. It’s a wait and see. I’m going to watch reruns of “Regular Show” for a while today. Sad but it still makes me laugh (until they go to space, which is jumping the shark for cartoons) |

No one. Ever again. I stand almost alone in wanting #30 being retired (they keep it for emergency goalies only) but #91 is way overdue to be in the rafters. I don’t think Z and Pav will be retired (could be wrong) but I don’t want to see those numbers on any kids or free agents |

Famous last words. Must be new here because there is a certain group of depressed bullies who need to spread their disgust with life and happiness by telling us how wrong we are thinking for ourselves and not being a depressed little poop like them.
Just a warning I’m sure they will ground you soon enough. Real Wings fans chat through messaging/inbox because we don’t want to be bullied or harassed by the mentally ill. |

An incredibly dysfunctional upbringing has helped with this. I have 14 siblings over 7 separate marriages. Half have been in jail, a few in full blown prison for some nasty stuff. When I look at some of that stuff, this is easy. To be fair, my mom had 4 kids. Dad had 2 then 3 then 3 again then adopted 6 step kids on #4. Life was a circus for a while |

I personally don't think there was much to do signing wise, I don't understand why toss term around, get 1 year deals sell at the tdl. This team will never go anywhere until they have a few true superstars that can control a game and well those don't grow on trees. Just how I view it at least |

I think that’s fair. I do expect player movement. I think Yzerman watched a team rebuild from multiple angles and the “in between” times can be a bit rough. He’s not infallible, no one is, but I do feel good about the “brain trust” overall. Just waiting to see what happens next because I don’t feel like we’ve made a “leap” forward at this point of the offseason |

I don't know about all these signings, there are too many and for semi-mediocre
players.
Compher didn't do much to help the Avs once Kadri moved on.
Holl is not good.
Ghost is a defensive "Black Hole".
Fischer wasn't even qualified by Coyotes of all teams.
How do they make the team better, I'll never know.

Let's hope these moves are a precursor for a bigger move or two to improve the team. If we judged every team by their current rosters around the league, most would be screwed after July 1. There's an off-season for a reason. This is day 2. |

I’d encourage you to check out Mlive. Khan essentially used that as the platform. Moves made, but was there any improvement? What I’m seeing now is 3 U of M players in Larkin, Copp and Compher (unless I’m mistaken) so looking for common ground? My honest hope is that Kasper comes in and puts someone on waivers. Jobs are there to be taken and that’s the reality of sport. If a big move goes down that makes some sense of things, that wouldn’t hurt either. In covering ESPN, horrible weekend. Watching Disney, horrible weekend. No one wanted 80 year old Indiana Jones with a life that fell apart. The biggest positive was that Bally isn’t losing Arizona teams yet. Better days are ahead, let’s let the water calm back down. Speaking of “Black Hole”, loved the movie as a kid (weird and twisted as it was) and had the wall paper but a C3p0 light switch. |

This was definitely a dismal batch of signings...no doubt. One has to wonder who would want to sign in Detroit.... so many decisions are based on location with these guys and playing for a historic franchise doesn't mean what it once did for a large percentage of players..... we dont know what Ottawa wants in return and we dont know if Dumba or Tarasenko would even consider Detroit... let alone Nylander.... it doesn't excuse signing free agents to do something as opposed to nothing..but it's what we apparently have... Id hoped maybe a deal with Calgary or Winnipeg may have happened.... we'll see what's next..... I won't critique the draft so much because I dont have the time put in to watch and grade these kids coming up, I rely on Yzerman and his staff to do their diligence and make good choices... currents NHL players however, as a fan I'm underwhelmed..... |

It’s a fair point. You don’t have people rushing to take a pay cut to play here (or even market value in some cases). It will get better, but it has to get better internally. If someone has an idea of how to do a group watch for Wednesday’s 3 on 3 prospect tourney let me know. My thought is just a twitter feed but open to suggestions |

Go Woke, Go Broke.
Short and simple explanation to all the talk about Disney, ESPN and many others.
They are being boycotted for a reason, no one wants to watch the crap they've been producing.
And there is no coming back from that for them. |

Teams are not liking Alex DeBrincat‘s asking price
The Fourth Period: David Pagnotta reported that the Anaheim Ducks, New York Islanders and Detroit Red Wings are among the teams interested in Ottawa Senators forward Alex DeBrincat.
DeBrincat asking price on an extension is a sticking point.
“There’s varying degrees of interest,” Dorion said, as quoted by the Ottawa Sun. “Teams call, we get close to a deal, I give them permission, and sometimes they’re not ready to pay maybe the term that we’re ready to pay.
“He’s 25 years old, so he’s looking for something in particular, and I can talk about it because we own his rights, so I think the degrees (of interest) vary.”
NHL Rumors: Alex DeBrincat, Erik Karlsson, and Max Domi
It’s not known what the Senators were asking the Ducks or Islanders for. They asked the Red Wings for the No. 9 pick. |
