34 - 3 x 12.634 ...keeps the P.A. happy as it pushes the needle and allows AM to hit the market the year after McDavid sets the new parameters by which all elite deals are measured. |

Re: Keefe to get an extension.
I guess MLSE told Brad "we have earmarked a bunch of $ to pay coaches who have been fired over the years and as Babs contact is up & we no longer have to pay him to not be our coach go ahead and offer Keefe an extension - if he needs to go later we will pay". |

A common comment from last blog regarding Hellebuyck is his next contract - and I'd agree. I wouldn't be approaching any deal unless an extension could be discussed.
He will be 31 and 4 years removed from his last Vezina when this contract expires. He's an excellent goalie, but I can't see how he can command more than $8m at this point in his career. That said, Bobrovsky was 30; Price was coming up on 30 and Vasilevskiy was 25.
It's those waning years that should worry someone.
If I could get a #1 Dman instead, I would take that over Helly, but having a guy who can cover up your mistakes more than most is an asset.

Give me Roy, just for the poops and giggles. Plus I think he's better than Keefe. |

I was thinking the same thing. They don’t want a coach without a contract as a distraction but if a guy they like becomes available then Keefe is gone. |

makes sense to me, but id guess 13.5 x3
cuz why not
some players make comments like they dont get into contract stuff they just let the agents handle it.
but AM leaving a few $$ on the table would help the Leafs...but maybe he lets his agent handle it

Don't disagree but at what cost is the biggest ? really. The way the Leafs are structured Cap wise they can't afford to pay big bucks to a goalie unless they make some pretty big changes and even at that I'm not on board with the trade for a guy who has been good as a goalie.
I think it works out far more often to draft and develop vs trading for elite goaltending as the examples of where trading for it seem to be far and few between at least to my memory.

I say he wants more than MacKinnon. They know not to look at dollars but instead to look at Cap Hit % - MacKinnon is at 15.27% of $82.5m. Let's take the vanity number and go 15.34% of the higher cap of $83.5m - for $12.8m. Or he goes 15.37% to get his salary to $12.834m.
The numbers I'd been thinking were basically in that $12.5 - $13.1m range based on some variables thrown around. Lesser is shorter term; I'm hoping they get 4 years here - it would leave him on the good side of 30.

I know. Chevy doesn't seem like he's thinking of blowing it up. I think Dubois' intentions this year may have a lot of influence over where Winnipeg goes. They don't have a goalie in the system who's even close to ready that I can see. They have cap room - so nothing is forcing their hand unless Helly wants to move on.
If they move on from Hellebuyck, they are possibly going to be moving on from Scheifele, Ehlers, Pionk and Schmidt as well. Connor and Morrissey are under longer term deals and might be harder to move. That said - a younger, cheaper Samsonov might be a decent start to keeping all of those other pieces.
I don't know what we'd add. This year's 1st and someone like Minten might be what Winnipeg would consider. I could see them liking Grebyonkin, but he probably hasn't boosted his stock enough.

Most likely the only reason he's not hired about anyone. He's a great coach.

Keeping Keefe? The one real move they can make to improve the team asap and they arent going to change a thing? Really think that is a mistake |

Ya, 12.5 - 13M makes sense on a shorty.
He's 26 (almost 27) next summer when his current deal ends ....so a 4 yr puts him at 30 (almost 31). If he goes short I think its one of those terms. |

I think you are off with this one.
Vanacek was traded at 26 for a 2nd and a 3rd after back to back .908 SV% seasons.
Sammy just came off a .919% season, I'd argue he gets a 2nd instead of the 3rd but even then your offer for Hellybyuck is a 1st, 38th overall, 46th overall, and another 2nd.
A 1st and 3 high to mid 2nds? I think you are overvaluing his value on the open market. |
