Officiating is beyond sketchy. Team needs to fight through it. If Im Lambert I rip the officials publicly and take the fine. Its worked for coaches in the past. |

The officials have not been good, but I disagree that ripping them publicly is a good tactic. Lambert is not a whiner, and there's no reason to establish that sort of reputation for himself early in his head coaching career. If anything, Lou can try to get a message quietly to Toronto. Lou is a respected GM with a long resume.

Yeah, like that would change anything. C'mon, you know better than that. |

And you think Lane complaining publicly about the officiating is going to help? Neither way is likely to make a difference, but at least Lane doesn't get a fine nor a reputation as a whiner.

Neither will make a difference - that was my point.
I wasn't abdicating that Lane made a statement. |

This was a tough match up for Isles as Canes play the same style just with more talent.
Not sure if last change will make much of a difference given same team styles. So I don’t expect this to be a home series.
Anyway good luck upsets are always nice. By the way what’s the opinion on Horvat’s playoff game? |

Funny Brind'Amour did not have a problem doing about the tomahawk chop. I do not believe he was fined.

The Isles need to come out with a purpose tonight.
Keys to tonight would be...
1. Score first... Play with the lead a place pressure on the Canes earlier.
2. Focus on Game 3 and only Game 3.
3. Take some pressure of Sorokin
4. Horvat needs to get on the board.
5. Instigate after the whistle, play with a freaking edge.

And my point was that a first year head coach in his first ever playoff series is the wrong guy to start attacking the refs publicly. My comment about Lou getting involved was more of an aside, suggesting that, if anyone complains about the refs, it should be Lou and it should be done in a way that doesn't embarrass them. As I said, I doubt that either way has much effect.......on that we seem to agree.

I agree with your assessment of the series. Horvat? His playoff game isn't much different from his regular season game..........which he is still searching for. |

The other poster brought up the fines. I think, if a coach chooses his words carefully, he can avoid fines. Brind'Amour has been around for many years and knows what he's doing.

He's been fined a couple times and put on notice that the next one will be very large, too. Lol |

Why? Who cares really? First year coaches are supposed to bend over and take what they get from the league? He gets fined a few bucks which I’m sure there’s some term in his contract it gets absorbed somehow. I almost think saying nothing is actually worse and gives these clowns a longer leash to keep doing what they’re doing. Brind’Amour for all his whining is considered one of the best coaches in the league among other “whiners” who also have that label.
To me it’s all part of gamenship in the playoffs. Look at trotz who by some is considered the epitome of professionalism is this league. Both him and Cassidy were critical of each other and the officiating last time we played the bruins. Believe me Brind’Amour is doing and saying what he is for a reason and that’s to try and have some semblance of control over the officiating. There’s no style points for winning. The vast majority of Stanley Cup winners haven’t done it based on some code of ethics to get there. Look at Tampa. Hated coach and team and dirty plays along the way but ultimately winning is all that matters.
Hanging our hat on losing gracefully is for someone else not me. Show some fire and (frank) everyone else and what they think. Win these two games and (frank) the canes and their moron fanbase. |

We'll agree to disagree. The game is over, time to move on. I don't care about style points either, but I think a coach begins to lose credibility with the refs if he gets a reputation for whining about calls. The refs already know they f*cked up. They don't need Lambert publicly whining about it. If it happens again at UBS, then maybe I will change my mind. |

I’m over it I moved on the day after took me a bit longer then I thought.
I’m not saying to do it now of course that time has passed. Believe me I’m not losing sleep over him sitting there with his mean face not saying anything during the post game. I just wouldn’t have minded if he showed some more fire that’s all. I don’t think you’re wrong in your thought process either. For me it’s the playoffs it’s us against the world. Rally the troops and get it done and (frank) everyone else along the way. |

I very well may eat my words but I say we take these next two games at home and make this interesting. I couldn’t think of a better time for Horvat and Lee to snap out of their slump and start contributing here in front of the home crowd. Get’er done boys. |

I wasn't referring to you, I was referring to the Islanders and their coach. Heck, this is hockeybuzz, we never completely move on...
Agree with your next post, it's time for Horvat and Lee to have a big impact. If they do, then there's no reason the Isles can't be successful at UBS and make this an interesting series. |

They definitely play significantly better at home when the crowd is behind them, I'm sure it's going to be nuts there tonight. Not to mention Carolina struggled on the road last year in both series. Going to have to just keep punishing them physically all night and hopefully the sleeping beauties snap out of their funk and start depositing some pucks in the net. |
