Best vs best tournies...the players want it and the fans want it, or at least up here we do. Pretty sure a lot of you Yanks around here have said over the years you wanna see them too. McDavid has been saying sh!t to the media up here lately about the lack of it. |

McDavid made 1 comment when asked about it after the WBC final. That's not saying sh!t to the media lately. It's 1 comment a month ago when he was questioned about it. |

So... He doesnt want it?... I guess lately is a matter of opinion and a month ago is lately to me 🤷.. Wasn't even a month ago, though haha
I guess we will mark you down as a "no" for best vs best tournies.
Thanks for coming out.

I got one am completely indifferent to international best on best. Do t watch the Olympics and didn’t when the nhl was in. I’m an nhl and penguins fan first. If they never did it again I wouldn’t even notice |

I can’t forsee a situation where I would want to bring him back. Even at the league minimum the allure for Sullivan to play him in the lineup over other players is too great.
Supposedly Sullivan is to have at least input / influence into personnel decisions going forward. I wouldn't count out the return of Dumo.
I feel bad for Jarry. I love how his chirps are able to get under the skin of the opponents without having to resort to Binnington bush league stuff.
Does the term for Zucker really matter at this point? The only issue I can think of is it might block a young player if we have 4 LWs we want to evaluate 3-4 years down the road. |

I wonder what the KHL has for Goalies? Can we please get some Scandinavian 3rd liners and penalty killers? |

Stakes need to be high though. I just want best on best Olympics. And Team USA finally can put together a competent team. |

If the top soccer leagues in Europe can work around international breaks, i think the NHL can manage to do it once every 4 years for the Olympics. The best players should play in the Olympics, not a bunch of scrubs.
A World Cup of Hockey and the Olympics are plenty. |

Mike Sullivan trying to tell two Tkachuk’s to just play with a limp wrist pointed at them. |

I'm fine with just Olympics. Olympic medals on the line are probably the highest stakes you're going to find for this kind of tournament. They've always felt like they've had much more weight to them than any of the other best vs best tournies, anyway. |

Bring back Jarry? No way!!! Colorado won a cup with a goalie like Kuemper. I'm not saying Pittsburgh is going to win a cup anytime soon but there will be options other than Jarry....that even with less talent will probably be more reliable. |

Zucker is going to the highest bidder. I doubt Pittsburgh has the cap space.
The issue of left defense is a bit more interesting and important. We have three signed, Pettersson, Joseph, and Smith. Friedman is okay as a replacement. I definitely see us reupping Dumoulin. Kulikov will go to free agency, maybe we try to sign him, maybe we don't. Only if we lose Dumo.
There are plenty of UFA's out there, the cap is going to be tight for just about everyone. Personally, I would like to see us go with the three younger defenseman. let Dumo walk and sign Kulikov as a #7. |

I wouldn't mind a 1 year deal for Jarry and put his as the 1b as tojo brought up. I think we need an upgrade to Dumo and to get younger on the LHD. I would also take Zucker back at a cheaper deal especially since he can play up and down the lineup.
I am hoping we get younger. Much as was brought up previously by many. I think Petry needs to go, as well as Rutta, and Granlund. Which will give us additional 13-14million in additional cap space this offseason. I put Rust as a test the trade market type (just because I feel like he would bring back a fair package and we need a shake up). |

When I looked up Jake Allen, I read he was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick. I don't know if it's considered part of the Newfoundland area or if it's part French or what.

Side note while looking through the UFAs list this season. They could make Grinders favorite line with
Lucic - Carter - Reaves as the 4th line hahaha |

I have to agree with Ryan on Jarry. I looked over the potential UFA, RFA, and young guys who might be available, but nothing.
I'm not on the anti DeSmith bandwagon, but he is not a 1b, nor has he been reliably durable nor healthy. He's not the right fit with Jarry.
About the best to hope for is a 1b like Korpisalo. Any better suggestions?
Good luck shedding that 2M salary though.

I’m not against any international tournaments. But the best on best in the world is the Stanley cup playoffs. Thrown together all star teams vs other thrown together all star teams is usually just decent at best hockey. |

Yeah... Nah... I just get kind of proud that they made the big show. Only 500k'ish people in our whole, pretty big land masses, province. |

In the previous thread, I proposed Jake Allen. 1B type, not a clear #1, but better than anything Pittsburgh has. The Habs need to get rid of a goalie because Primeau needs to go through waivers next season. I assumed a second next year (or a similar package) could get it done. Would you be interested? |

Not crazy, but he is older, his 2022 stats don't compare well to either DeSmith or Korpisalo, nor do his career numbers stand out. In the $1.5-2M AAV range, I'd take the Fin.
