Let's assume.hawks get a top 2 pick. Do.they join the big club in 2023 or does KD keep them in minors college or AHL for season?

I think if you land Bedard he plays right away and if it's Fantilli it's a play by ear situation. I wouldnt hate him playing another year at Michigan with Nazar.

In Fantilli's case, assuming 2nd pick, it's his call whether he wants to return to Michigan or turns pro. Sure KD could try and influence his decision but his MO indicates he isn't rushing prospects.

Bedard either has to return to Juniors or play in the NHL. Staying in Juniors next year could almost guarantee a top 3 pick for the Hawks in 2024.

Yes finally something to get excited about. 4 players on Team Canada and 3 on defence looks good for the future. Will make a usually very entertaining tournament even better having that many prospects to watch on one team.

Anyone know if Commesso can still make the US team, or is he not eligible?

We all share your sentiment. Exciting to think we have a bright future with these youngsters on the way

Wiz has pointed out, however, that my enthusiasm is to be checked because not all prospects are going to become top line or top pair dmen

I heard the podcast with Proman as a guest and they suggest Soderstrom may be the goaltender for the future more so than Comesso..Maybe but one is here now and not overmatched or force fed in the NHL. Comesso surely will play for a while in the AHL before advancement.

The point that gets me thinking and probably going too far hoping for more than will actually play out...
Is how good can the blueline crew become once some kids develop or reach their ceiling in the NHL

We may not actually have a 100% certainty we know what their ceiling is..Wiz does not see top pair capacity for most of them. But I tend to get carried away when Theo mentions how this guy or that guy has improved, is playing well.

I forecast a mobile defence group with some toughness btw. I choose to guess what role and who competes for each spot depth wise

DelMastro and Allen: one might turn out a second pair, the other a third pair. Vlasic a second or third pair. Mitchell has to be very good to succeed because he is a smaller size guy, according to the discussion on that podcast.

Alright, could Kaiser become a 2nd pair.. Crevier with Chara attributes strives and succeeds to become tough to play against....a third pair but his wingspan and can contribute all around game.

Galvas has plenty of professional experience overseas and showed well albeit briefly in his NHL cup of cofffee..As a steady, heady small size player I imagine he would wind up as a third pair

Reportedly Phillips has improved [but] I counter: in what way(s). Philips and Regula have the size but are not naturally aggressive or mean. They need to pin their man against the boards

There are others too I purposely omitted due to not wanting to leave a long review. It is excitng too see how they turn out. Certainly a large group of the best calibre dmen ever seen as far as prospects go.

After Wiz sort of scolded or mentioned not to get overly excited about each prospect, I can recall another blogger who long ago had good read on things. Steve Rain said something along the line of a prospect is a prospect until he is not.

Wiz is right, many won't become 1st pairing Dmen in fact most prospects won't play 150 NHL games. That's why you collect a bunch of players and with proper evaluating and developing you'll hit on enough. Proper evaluating the Hawks would have drafted Dobson, taken 4-5 spots after Boqvist, and they'd have a 1st pairing Dman today with size, a PP QB who can skate and defend.....

How has Phillips, who I'm high on, improved? He's a 5th rd pick meaning he had a lot of holes/weaknesses in his game. Kid won't turn 22 until after the season, in September, and will have 160ish AHL games. He's improved statistically over his 3 yrs in Rockford and that's what you look for, development.

Someone saw something in him (size/skating/athletic) and today we see a big kid who can skate and is a helluv an athlete who is improving each yr. Look at his numbers. Kid was always near even in plus minus and in 22 games this yr he's a +17 as a young 21 yr old in a tough league!! By far his best showing on that account. Add he has 16 pts in 22 games. A 5th rounder! ....... I'm excited due to his athleticism, size, skating and accepting the coaching to improve every step of the way at every level. https://www.eliteprospect...yer/416750/isaak-phillips

If Korchinski is the #1 Dman 5 yrs from now who pairs with him? He'll need a stout, mobile, defensive oriented partner. Does a Vlasic or Allen fit that mold? IMO yes but it doesn't mean they will but they fit that mold. And if they ain't 1st pairing guys if they are useful/solid/good NHLers you'll find a spot for them.

Del Mastro a fit as a 1st pairing guy with a Korchinski? Kid is 6ft 4in 210lbs, is stout, physical (high PIMs), can skate, big reach, cut from the WJC team last yr, called back up due to injury, played his way to 1st pairing for 2 games, dropped to 2nd pairing and never left the lineup for the Gold Medal winning squad (he won Gold with the U-18s' too). During a 5 on 3 against last yr for Canada kid was one of 2 Dmen on the ice. ..... He has 21 in 22 this yr in the OHL.

Del Mastro is a 4th rd pick! How did the kid fall in the draft? Check out his EP page. He was drafted in 2021 the yr the OHL was shut down for covid but he skated 7 games with the U-18 WJC squad. Yr before he had 7 pts total!! That's how he fell and someone had a book on the kid saying great size, can skate, is physical, good compete and you get that kinda guy in Rd 4 cuz he only had 7 pts the yr before his draft yr and didn't play his draft yr cuz of covid. Excellent evaluating/scouting.......... Worth getting pumped over? https://www.eliteprospect...r/525637/ethan-del-mastro

Get 10 guys like that later in the draft, hit on 3 of them and hit on your 1st and 2nd rd picks and now you're cookin. ...... And yea Rainman is right too, a prospect is a prospect until he ain't. I'll say this, having 3 Hawk prospects playing D for the best hockey country on earth is a huge thing and something to get really really excited about.

Great reply...lot of good things you mention. Theo undoubably will offer his review of the Rockford players based upon (after) a descent increment of games allows a comparison to an earlier games

One point I did not mention .......I find really quite interesting when an underdog breaks through to the NHL

You actually did cover this with your example of Phillips development curve

I am looking at both Mitchell but especially unheralded Galvas as they are smaller sized players. Conversely Crevier is really not too big a long shot. Big is a key word here with Crevier in many ways

His size and wingspan are Chara like. Initially he was a very tall thin player in junior but he looks like he could fill out somewhat. His style or choice of style is to be a shutdown type. He was perhaps needing somewhat to grow his game into his body size. He is agile and moves pretty good for a large size player, right. And he is improving in thus aspect. Vlasic reportedly had to go through this as he advanced as a collegiate? Anyway, Crevier has enough ability to be a well rounded dman, although he is not an offensive guy nonetheless he can get the job done. With a little bit of nasty to go along with a strong defensive game and that wingspan, I want to see him as our third pair guy hard to play against

Interestingly, Crevier was holding his own as in the early games thus season he was paired with - yep Vlasic

Bedard and Fantilli will play in the NHL next season, regardless of who drafts them.

I still think the Hawks will draft #4 overall and select Carlsson or Michkov, depending on who is available.

Anaheim will draft #1, CBJ #2, San Jose #3.

Next to the Stanley Cup Playoffs the WJHC is my favourite hockey tournament and it will be nice to have several Blackhawks prospects to follow, especially 4 on Team Canada. I’m surprised Greene didn’t make it, maybe next year or if there is an injury he can jump in like Del Mastro did in the last tournament.

Arizona will take one of the top 2 spots. Bettman will die trying to prove Arizona is a hockey market.
