Not the best hockey but as you said fun game to watch
From the previous blog:
I don’t think Kane is going anywhere. He wants to break all the Blackhawks records and he’ll be around for a few more seasons.
I don’t think the return for Kane would be as good as people think. A late first and a b-level prospect or 2nd round pick is likely. For that price the Hawks are better off keeping Kane around.
Toews will be dealt for an underwhelming return, maybe a 3rd round pick.
- DarthKane
Think you may be right in terms of Kane wanting to stay and break all the Hawk records but when he is sitting a single digit goals at the halfway point in the season, he may realize that will not be possible with the crap he will be surrounded with. |

Hey Zach. Vlasic has an undisclosed injury. He blocked a shot in practice (I believe they said off his foot/leg) before the first game. I’m guessing he’ll be in when he gets healthy. |

Just got back from the game, figured it might be the last time I see Kane and Towes in Blackhawks sweaters at a live game.
This team played with so much effort. I really liked Tinordi's game. After years of watching Hawks defencemen swinging their purses along the boards, it's great to see someone lay the body on a forward and get control of the puck. Respect to Tyler Johnson, the guy had neck surgery last year and he's throwing what little weight he has out there more than anybody. The guy lays out to block a shot from the point in the 3rd game of the season on a team destined for last place and it leads to a breakaway goal.
Towes looked like a top 6 forward, good to see.
The Hawks looked their best when #89 was sitting out his 10 minute misconduct. Maybe utilize the guys speed on the penalty kill if you want that unit to be more aggressive. He looks out of place for the most part.
It's hard to watch Kane out there because he doesn't have anyone to make plays with. I couldn't believe that I saw him go to the front of the net twice, that's how desperate he is to put up points.
And Caleb Jones. You really need to witness Caleb's game in person to see just how awful that guy is. He doesn't even know that his brother is a right hand shot.
Not too much to get high off of because the Sharks are garbage. There was a very nice tribute to Doug Wilson before the game and he gave plenty of credit to former Blackhawk players. |

Not that he’s an elite player, but it looks like Kurashev has upped his game. Maybe he gets the next shot with Kane. |

If Dikinson was here for the Hawks first two games the Hawks would be undefeated. red font. |

Only about 13 teams have more than 2 points. The Hawks better be careful. Winning games is a mistake. At least the Wings are coming to Chicago. The Hawks will make up for this win by getting waxed by the Wings. |

Too bad Athanasiou doesn’t play a 200’ game. A line of Dicinson, Lafferty, and Athanasiou would be a very fast energy third line.
You could flip Kurashev and Athanasiou. The 2nd line could be Kane, Kurashev and Domi.
But winning is not the goal. So…..whatever! |

I would definitely move Kurashev to Kane’s line. By the way, two starts for MAF with the Wild and hasn’t made it to the 2nd period yet. |

There isn’t much else that KD could have done to set this team up for a top pick. Outside of playing a bunch of rookies which is 180 degrees from what they want to do. If Richardson gets this collection to play competitive hockey and they end up 7th or whatever, at least you know you have a damned good coach. |

It is nice to not see them behind the play chasing the puck all around in their own end all night. |

Kane looks like he is content to coast out there right now. Will be tough to break any records until he shows a little desire. He is still a very talented offensive player, but hasn't been playing like a guy who fit into and buys into the coaches system.
Refreshing to see the team actually being aggressive on the PK when they have the chance. They've been so damn passive on the PK for a long time now. In the second period they matched their SHG total from all last season with 2. Not going to pad the offensive numbers in a big way with SHG, but the handful of times in a season you can swing a game to your favor is huge. |

There are going to be hard pressed to be as awful as Arizona. |

They don’t need to be as awful as the Yotes. They can be lucky in the lottery. |

A #17 that is fast and does not shy away from contact. I did not hate Strome, but I am starting to take to Dikinson. |

However two straight games preseason Vlasic was not good when paired with Roos.
Hmmm...... |

And in every single preseason game Toews looked disinterested (from what I read and heard). I would read absolutely nothing into what you saw during the preseason. Worry about what he does when he finally plays. |

Nah, having 2 LD men, left handed playing defense makes most defensive pairings look bad unless they are or were studs like Nik and Oduya, or Nik and Keith, and even then they really made it hard on them in later years since they started forcing Nik to back hand everything out of the zone. |

Sharks and Knights are not exactly the class of the league. However seeing the Hawks being competitive in back to back road games is something. See a structure that is more like an NHL team and less like a Chinese Fire drill is also good. |

Al Cimiglia was the first I saw to say last yr that any reasonably competent NHL coaching will make any Hawk roster loads better than under Colliton. In fact he was screaming it he was so disgusted with JC being made coach.
And we are seeing that under LR with in fact a much less talented roster although one might argue this group "fits" better. Like some I'm worried LR may drag this group to enough success that sabotages chances of securing a top 3 pick.
But like Feldman use to say I never saw a jockey carry a horse over the finish line. Indeed, there a few rosters less talented than the Hawks' and that's before KD cannibalizes it as the season moves along. So there is hope.
On that note yes SJ stinks and their goalie was really bad yesterday. Despite that they out fancied the Hawks pretty good in fact which is good to see. Check out the Corsi and shots for percentages of the lines. .... TJ-Johnny-Raddyish a 29 CF. Kurashev-Dikson-Lafferty a 33 CF. https://frozenpool.dobber...3&game_type=R&game_num=38
