Never seen or heard the term "bona fide" offer before.
Bill do you think they offered him a deal knowing he doesn't want to play college possibly? In his case what was the rush in your opinion? |

Bill,
What are your thoughts on what the team should try to do. Not sure if I missed them somewhere or not but curious what your ideas might be.
Would you go after Gaudreau?
Would you see about moving guys like JVR or Konecny.
Just curious how you mind sees this moving forward. Again I appoligize if you have said it before and I missed it.

It's in the CBA. I see it more often as relates to NCAA players -- they have to refuse the offer within 30 days -- than CHL junior players. I suspect that McLaughlin is considering CHL. He could slide in AHL, too, but I doubt he's ready for that big a jump so soon.

Flyers ever offered a bona fide offer before? Don't recall. Yeah no rush play juniors or college for a few more years.
Owen isn't exactly enamored with school work shall we say.

I would not pursue Gaudreau. He'd lead the team in scoring but I don't think (especially given the cap implications just to get in the ballpark of a competitive offer) he alone would significantly improve the team fortunately.
Am fine with moving JVR by eating half for his final contracted season. Not sure it is doable without also giving up an asset (I don't want sweeteners). Against a buyout.
With Konecny, it would have to be a hockey trade and my view would really depend on the composition of the trade and what's coming back. |

Based on the direction the team will take, the 2/3 players away mantra, who would you pursue?

Funny how they will offer a 19 yr old a BFO before he even starts his NCAA career. But they apparently have no interest in offering one to Jay O’Brien to entice him to leave college. Jay will be age 23 when he starts his draft +5 season which is unheard of for a first round pick. |

At age 31, O’Brien will make his NHL debut as the NHL’s most anticipated player |

They will get a compensatory 2nd rd pick of he doesn't sign I think. Though not 100%.
Maybe that has higher value.

You know the history right.
INjuries, left school, went to BCHL, went to boston, injuries.
O'Brien hasn't done enough to warrant and offer.
Right now that pick is right up their with patrick as picks that have delayed the Flyers rebuild or whatever.
Imagine if Patrick worked out and instead of O'Brien thy took K'ANdre Miller. How much better would the Flyers look. ALso the ripple effect that happens because you missed.

O’Brien was the classic example of the Flyers being smarter than everyone else. Do you know who was the last player other than O’Brien to be drafted in the first round out of a NE prep school? Chris Kreider 2009. |

Hi Bill,
Do you believe there's any chance Giroux comes back to Philly next season?
Would a 3-4 year cap friendly contract be something management would consider based on your knowledge and sources ?
Thanks and keep up the great work

Can we please stop already with this false narrative! No one ever said the Flyers are 2 or 3 players away. Not Fletcher, not Briere, not Flahr and not Scott. In his last press conference, Scott said he expected the team to be more competitive next season and didn't see the need for a complete tear down and rebuild. Then Scott stated he felt the team was 2 or 3 players away, but then looked at Fletcher and stated "or more!". So clearly Scott caught himself and recognized that more than 2 or 3 players are needed. |

Jay O'Brien is a risk and frankly I would not have signed him yet either. He can't stay on the ice, plain and simple. The Flyers have enough of these types of players already and don't need another injury prone player. Jay has 1 more season for BU this year. He needs to show he can stay on the ice and if he does he will have a monster offensive year and I am sure the Flyers will want to sign him. When O'Brien plays he is a difference maker for BU, but so far he has just not played enough. |

So based on what you just posted, someone connected with the team did say that the Flyers are 2 or 3 players away. The irony of telling people to stop with a false narrative while offering one yourself. Can't make it up. It was said and everyone pretty much heard it said.

Filip Forsberg is the biggest difference maker available in UFA, and the only one worth getting in cap trouble over, IMO. |
