A veteran of 18 seasons in the NHL, Danny Brière has been working as an executive in the Flyers system for a few years now and being perfectly bilingual, makes him a likely candidate to be the next Canadiens’ GM. |

I'd be kinda disappointed if Brière was named GM, he's among the weaker choices imho. |

tks Karine,
I know many hope he will not be the chosen one because he went to Philly.
same people seem to forget that maybe Habs were lucky he did. didn't the Flyers buy him out after 4 years? so it's all good. I have no bad feeling about this. we have to seperate the former player and the future manager. not easy, but necessary. Roy wanted out and many would love him for GM! what's the logic here? the important thing is what can you do for me now, as a GM. the rest is history.
now to the GM job. like you said, he's one of the rare ones on that list who has some experience. that's a plus. he also was a gifted and talented player, not a grinder. that alone would be good for a change. no candidate is perfect, there are pros and cons, but if they end up hiring him I wouldn't be disappointed as some others. a solid candidate, just as interesting as the others imo. |

A speedy winger, Brière overcome bias caused by his diminutive stature to forge himself a highly respected 18-year career in the NHL.
He was a center for most of his career, including his 95 points season |

I agree, if people are saying he is the weaker candidate even though he has the most experience, my guess it is because of the sour taste left from his decision to sign with the Flyers...I'd prefer an offense minded player to make decisions than the tired old grinders win games mentality. At one point the Habs had a 2ND line and 3 4TH lines with our farm system loaded with 4th liners ready to jump in if there was a 4th liner down, ugh.
I do like the concept of picking a 'GM' with no experience as GM but lots in other areas to compliment the puppet master and learn as they go. |

I'm indifferent to most of the candidates, I think they all have their plus and minuses, but seem smart enough to learn from Gorton to supplement whatever experience they currently have to eventually become decent GMs.... that being said, I am not a fan of Briere (or Roy) being GM.

well he did end up playing with the habs, at the end of his career while he was clearly past his prime, but still... personally it has nothing to do with that, it's very subjective but I'm under the impression that guys like Mathieu Darche and Marc Denis possess a certain character/personality that would be better suited for the GM role in MTL. |

I said from the start my money is on Denis but i’d be ok with Darche or Brière as well. Would like to see Castonguay brought into the fold in some capacity as well, but we’ll see. Ek knows Brière personally, so that connection could come in handy for sure kinda making me root for him lol.

The name of the game is winning. Get both him and Harris under contract pronto. Name another team that either of them would be playing NHL hockey as soon as with the Habs? I can't either. Should be a gimme |

No. 6 years. Gave them some good seasons, especially come the playoffs.
By the time he was bought out, he was like 35 and done.

even if he has met briere nobody's gonna believe him when he says it because he's been caught in thousands of lies in the past. that's his own fault.

I know Gary Bettman personally. He comes into our suite at the saddledome usually once a year. I shake his hand and we all chat about a new arena etc.
So He is a personal source of mine. |

I personally know Brière as well, he's from Gatineau, and so am I, which means we're basically best buds.
