Bill Meltzer: Quick Hits: MacEwen, Hayes, Phantoms Drop Preseason Finale - bmeltzer
Thanks a ton for the “Iron Man” video of The Hammer!! Great guy off the ice as well. Always treated me like I mattered, whether playing golf, or a couple charity games against the alumni team.
Can’t tell you how much I miss the game the way it used to be. It’s almost like the Ice Capades now. Too much money involved today, to let players have at it. .....but I can reminisce with a smile!!👍 |

Looks like the team got a bit scared the way they were manhandled physically against Washington and Tom Wilson. |

You wouldn’t think that but maybe. I don’t think you’re going to have these new guys out there much against Wilson regardless as he can skate higher in the lineup.
I’m really hoping that we see Ellis and rr on the ice at practice today. |

Same here. More so Ellis. |

How we doing today Flyers fans?
Don't know what to make of them claiming 2 borderline NHL 4th line players. Eventually both are gonna get waived back down to the phantoms is the logical conclusion. Add 1 guy maybe, don't see the point in adding 2. What is the end game here?
Middling team, capped out, maxed out on contracts, lack of high end talent. Lets go Flyers.

Correct Wilson will be laughing his ass off with that matchup.

Don't know much about MacEwen but "he is strong on the walls, a good forechecker and bring size and toughness to the lower end of the lineup" sounds good to me. |

This is already the oddest start to a season that I can remember. Just claiming guys left and right off waivers gives the appearance of throwing shyte against the wall to see if it will stick. I also wonder if Hayes was placed on LTIR yesterday cause they know that either Risto or Ellis(both?) won't be playing tomorrow night. |

Sounds like a bigger Dan Carrcillo to me. All the Antics aside, one thing Carcillo could do well was forcheck. |

Guessing we won’t see macewen in game one as they want to get him into the system. But maybe game two or three. Low risk pick up. Shame we are at 50 contracts now. |

Carcillo was a legit NHL player. Is this guy? |

The goods news is both can help the kids in the ahl if not claimed. Don’t know much about macewen. They said he was playing well the year before COVID. We shall see in time. And not a beast but he is willing to stand up for teammates and take on any. Plays physical. Vancouver had a lot of competition. Who knows. |

Until the Flyers get healthy they will be inhabiting lower middling. Some flexibility would be nice but Flyers management tends to believe that flexibility is overrated. |

Is stand up for his teammates code for he cant play? Tired of these borderline type players. You want to add a plyer of this ilk then get one that can actually play. Looking at the garbage they have on the 4th line now maybe they get lucky and he can contribute somehow.
Takes time away from the "kids". They have plenty of vets in Lehigh.

They are still a middling team even if healthy.

Understand your point. They claimed one. It think they like the second player claimed more. Just guessing. |

I rather take the chance on him then brown or Nate though. Just me.

Question:
Did Ryan Ellis (lower-body issue) and/or Rasmus Ristolainen (upper-body issue) play golf on Monday? |

Agree. Though there is no shot Nate is benched. None.

they can actually play though
if you're saying that they aren't going to produce much offense, wtf do you expect from low salary bottom of the roster players beyond the skills like being good away from the puck and along the boards and physical? If they could do all of those things and produce offense at a good rate then they'd be top 9 or top 6 players and would have corresponding salaries
sorry they're not the Philadelphia Globetrotters playing all stars on the 4th line |

One is 29 years old with what 30 nhl games? Yeah he sure can play. They other hasnt proved he can play and was waived by Vancouver. They are not exactly oozing with talent. Both 13th forwards on some teams, wouldn't make other teams.
Where did I mention offense? Can you find that for me? If they want physical guys who are strong on the boards then go get ones who are legit nhl player and good at it. Develop those kind of players. Putting together 3 leftovers and calling it your 4th line doesn't work.
Just shows the sad state of the "young" prospects in Lehigh that none can be counted on for even a 10 game stint right now.
