First and foremost, thank you Trevor for putting this little number up. (and thanks for the other guest blog). We are once again in the 'no blogger available' category on this site. Thank god, I've never paid for it.

Was a fundamentally 'meh' effort which sadly speaks to the past few seasons. Some of the guys that played don't really have to worry about a roster spot and it showed. Hopefully not a sign of things to come. Valamaki, Dube, Gudbranson to me are all fighting for a regular spot in the new Sutter era. Screwing the pooch now doesn't likely sit well.

Its the first one, nerves were prob a factor so lets see what Group B brings tonight.

Any of the Nucks fans know if they are allowing fans in in Abbotsford?

Looked like the team were telling Sutter 'you've got no one to take my minutes anyway' last night. He's going to have a long year with this group.

Good news. We have to be stronger in the middle. Dubé's natural position is centre.

"I want to do it a couple times in pre-season so he's ready for it because it will happen during the season at some point."

Darryl Sutter on utilizing Dillon Dube at centre this evening.

Dube was a beast at times for the Rockets, good to see him get a shot playing there now.
Hopefully he does well and Backlund can become expendable.

Yup, the division is practically locked up. The Flames and Knights will never win a game, and the Oilers will be unstoppable with a rejuvenated Ryan putting up 160 points.

Be good to see Kylington light it up this exhibition season, it's probably his last chance. Valimaki's going to be on a short leash as well, sh!tty thing for him is he'll probably be paired with Gubranson or Stone. Anderson better pick up his game as well, he played like crap most of last year. Hanifin and Tanev should be a solid pairing and hoping Zadorov delivers in the physical side.
Treliving has done a poor job restocking the defence cupboards, I think it's going to be pretty obvious this year.

Mike Smith with the Vezina
Duncan Keith wins Norris
Holland with the Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award for all of the stellar moves this offseason

Yet the Oil fail to make the playoffs, Drai and McDavid ask for an immediate trade.

This team is going nowhere (I was going to say fast, but that word doesn't apply to the Flames this year) slowly.

The best comment I've heard from Treliving's summer was that he was great at dumpster diving with the contracts he signed.

Not trading or signing Goudreau by the 28th of July is a fireable offense in my humble opinion. If he cannot be signed, the Flames are now limited to 5 teams the Goudreau will allow to be traded to. Talk about limiting your potential.

Overall, I see the Flames maybe getting between 75 - 80 points. Not nearly enough to make the playoffs. Markstrom may be kicking himself for signing long term when they go full rebuild next year.

That was Sutter brand hockey last night. I lost interest pretty quick.

You didn't get the game. We're basing the entire season on the first pre-season game. Smith and Keith will play in zero games, so they probably won't win any trophies. The Oilers also won't miss the playoffs since they won't lose any games this year.

That's kinda hard to do. They're always mediocre and are always projected to be mediocre.

Vladar looking like the lone bright spot so far in the pre-season. We may have a legit backup after all...

I agree on Darth, but.......
Lone bright spot? Wow! Dube played a hell of a game at center last night, Mang had some great shifts, little rusty, Ritchie played some good shifts. Come on we sent mostly a Stockton Heat roster, what were you expecting?

Fair enough, didn't see the game (can't watch pre-season), just going off the stat lines, so I will close my mouth.

I watch the game on the Flames website, there were some sound problems the first period but they fixed them for the last 2.
Was also impressed with Duehr, not sure where he came from but he's a big right shot winger.
