Of course people are calling you about your unsigned elite forward.

Zero pressure for Dubas.
1. The team apparently trading for him has to be ok with paying Marner the mega bucks he is looking for. Contrary to popular leaf-hating belief, I don't believe there are too many suitors.
2. For any trade offers to be considered, they would likely have to be close to the value of 4-first rounders otherwise, he could just wait out an offer sheet. Again, I don't believe there are many suitors who would pay this value plus have the space for the mega bucks he is looking for.

I'm guessing the calls are now coming in because the Leafs set an internal deadline of July 31st.

The only question left is whether it will be an offer sheet or a sign-and-trade.

I just can not understand why a team would sign an RFA they control to a 5 year deal that buys no Free agent years?

I can understand a 2 or 3 year bridge or 6 or 7 year deal. But 5, makes zero sense

I think the best course of action would be for Dubas to sign a PTO in an attempt to scare Marner into signing. It would get the ball rolling for all the other RFAs to sign

Tkachuk is the first to sign? What happened to the McAvoy bridge deal since he apparently hates the business side of things and just wants to play hockey? Also, why trade for Marner when you can just do a killer 1-year $14M offer sheet?

Regardless of what one thinks of this site, it does provide a forum to chat (or ridicule).

On this Marner front, had he wanted to sign an offer sheet, he most likely would have already. By all accounts he wants to be a Leaf and stay in Toronto. Hence, the real leverage in this case is to start taking calls on trades. Marner has no say in where he would end up. If I'm Dubas, I would have been taking calls already.

Secondly, Tuk-achuk is not going to be the first to sign. The Flames have no money to sign him.

Marner didn't sign on July 31st and that is not OK. Proorov talks are going nowhere. The Candiens are still trying to make a big splash. Yzerman is getting tired of being the GM of 2 hockey teams. Killer offer sheets are coming. RFAs are scared to death of PTOs. More to come for sure...
