Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks part ways with president Trevor Linden after 4 seasons After four largely frustrating seasons, it seems that differences of opinion led the Vancouver Canucks to announce on Wednesday that they were parting ways with president of hockey operations Trevor Linden.

4:1 the Canucks don't win a playoff game during Petterson's ELC.

2:1 the Canuck's don't make the playoffs during Petterson's ELC.

I really hope its not Pronger. 3 years in NHL player safety does NOT qualify him as experienced .The team needs an experienced hand this time and not experiments on behalf of the league who want to promote someone. Does Stu Jackson kindle the memories of the last time a league meddled in a Vancouver teams management hire :

Poor Jake Virtanen's new contract barely gets a mention in the new blog

Thanks Carol, you weren’t kidding, you didn’t even offer up the numbers or an opinion on it.

But this is much more important news.

Cheers!

That’s a great counter point, I can see you’ve given if a lot of thought.

Just trying to keep it consistent. I actually had something to say in retort but then the page crashed, I lost it all.

I wonder if Bill Guerin might be a fit, his resume is pretty good and has been a jack of all trades since starting his management career in Pitts in 2011
On June 6, 2011, the Penguins hired Guerin as their player development coach. On June 6, 2014, Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford announced that Guerin would be promoted to assistant general manager of the team. Rutherford said that Guerin would be focusing on developing the analytical side of the game. Following consecutive Stanley Cup triumphs in 2016 and 2017, the Penguins announced that Guerin's duties would expand to include the role of general manager of their American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, made vacant via the departure of Jason Botterill to the NHL's Buffalo Sabres.[13]

I think Jake's signing is good for the team and an incentive for Virtanen to prove something of himself over this 2 year period.

What does he need to do for him to be successful, in your eyes? Is it about goals/assists. Does he need to be harder to play against? Two way game? Or does he need to live up to his draft position?

Part of me hopes they, ownership, fails for a long time, as they seem content on cutting off their nose to spite their face trying to win and compete before they're ready.

Although I'm of the opinion Linden wasn't qualified to be President of Hockey Operations it must have been extremely frustrating to work with/for a control-freak.

Keenan is the manager the Canucks deserve, but not the one they need right now, so we’ll discuss him. Because he can take it, because he's not a manager. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, an emerald Knight.

1 ew wikipedia

2 no one knows what Guerin does in Pittsburgh. People need to stop giving former players cred because they are former players.

Theo Epstein couldn't hit a home run in a 100ft park. But the way he runs a franchise is a lot better than the way Derek Jeter does.

I am surprised at the reaction of the fan base regarding this situation. But in all honesty I am not really that surprised considering the uninformed statements that are made by individuals based on emotion rather that facts.

So from what I've read by real knowledgeable hockey people (sorry not HB posters) that, 1. Linden was hired by Aquillini to turn the club around. 2. Linden communicated his vision and that major changes needed to be made, i.e. trade Edler, Sedins, whomever for picks. 3. Aquillini overruled him. 4. Linden presented a list of successful rebuild teams to FA. 5. Again overruled, building a successful franchise is not the objective, the only objective is to make the playoffs and continue the 1st round exit and rinse and repeat...

Ok there is a little creative paraphrasing there, but essentially that's the overall picture.

And for the last 4 years Canuck fans have blamed the overall position of the Canucks at Lindens feet, when in actuality he was trying to rebuild the team properly through draft and develop and trading vets for picks.

Ok know that Linden is gone who is everyone going to set there sights on now, there can't be peace without unwarranted hyperbole.

You can’t let personal emotions get in the way of making good business decisions. FA is doing just that. He is an egomaniac and wants success right now, but it’s not good for the long term success of this team. Proof is the last 3 years. He needs to hire someone that he trusts and let them do the job of rebuilding this team. TL was over his head and FA stopped having trust after TL and JB first season.

The blame I put on Linden was sticking around as long as he did, the first time he was told no by FA he should have been out the door.
