Ben Case: Canes Down Canadiens and Thoughts on Relocation Rumors Last night, the Hurricanes went on their first 3-game winning streak of the season as they beat the Canadiens 3-2. What is more impressive about notching their first winning streak of the season is the opponents that they beat—Washington, San Jose and Montreal which collectively combine for a 36-15-4 record this season. A major question during the Canes current 5-game home-stand surrounded how they would do playing some top level competition—so far through the first 4 games, they are 3-1-0.

Winning solves everything. If the Canes can string together a few more wins the fans will come back.

I hope your right about the NHL and Karmanos taking a long term view of the Raleigh market, but I think Karmonos family dynamics and small crowds may have them looking shorter term.

It will be interesting to see if a deal to sell the team materializes. It would be a shame to see them relocate.

There is a buyer readily available. Which makes the sale rumor scary. The only way Quebec will get a team soon is buy and relocate. Only issue I'd see is it will have to cause another realign of divisions.

If a relocation is in the cards, it won't be soon as the league clearly wants to add an another team. Because of that, they would be foolish to allow a sale and move of a current team for less than their $500M before the next team is added. Couple that with the lease agreement which is very favorable and would cost money to break, and I think the Canes are likely in this area for at least two if not three more years regardless of any externalities. That is three years for the team to find a local buyer, get better, and maybe profitable if the fans return with the wins.

Only time will tell.

I seem to remember when the topic was brought up in the past, many pointed to the favorable lease the Canes had in place at the PNC Arena. I never heard the details or the explanation as to what made the lease so favorable.

Which city was rumored to be targeted for a relocation?

Quebec?

Seattle?

Was a new city speculated?

NHL teams having problems, point to that Commissioner. Expansion and delusion of talent does not equate to higher attendance and ticket prices.

There are tons of geese around. I was out helping a few buddies clean out their goose pit and clean up all the deeks a few weeks ago and there were hundreds of geese moving up high.

You can see a whole bunch of them in one of these pics:
