Glad to see there wasn't too much stuff between the whistles. Discipline was a huge factor in this game, especially when the Flyers started hacking a bit more in the 3rd. I do wonder if the game result would have been different if Geno was playing. He is usually good for a retaliatory penalty or two against the Flyers. |

That's a good point. The Penguins were able to maintain their composure throughout the game. |

I'll say it again...probably the best hockey this team has played since winning the cup...no doubt about it.
Crosby's compete level is very noticeable and it is noticeable in his teammates as well.
Daley's goal was the perfect example of how a team needs to respond when they go down 1-0 and it was a bunch of 'new' guys who made it happen.
The chemistry is there with these guys right now, anything is possible.
Tonight's game should be fun to watch. |

Pittsburgh could have won several more games from Filly if it kept its cool like last night. The gameplan is pretty simple if you ask me. |

Huh... thought Phil got an assist on that goal he set up for Hags.
Oh well, they better win tonight! Likely the only game I can go to for the rest of the season.
Also... could not having Malkin in the lineup have helped them stay cool vs Philly? I'll flat out point a finger at Geno and say he is the worst on our team at retaliatory/stupid penalties. |

Ill give Kessel credit, he played a good game yesterday. Too bad he doesn't put that effort in every night.
Philly looked so terrible. I havent seen them all year and I expected more from their recent run, but God they looked awful. They had several odd man rushes in the 1st and Im not sure they were even trying on them. |

Losing Malkin was a turning point for this team. They could have wilted, they had an excuse, toughest stretch of the year and you lose a talent like Geno. Instead they have to a man everyone of them raised their game.
Today we are about to take home ice from the Rags and theyre not getting it back.

I'm not going to take anything away from Pittsburgh, they were clearly better yesterday. That said, it was the least inpired game the Flyers have played in 3+ weeks. |

They played some nice hockey under Johnston's first couple of months, but I agree, this has been better.
Crosby made another great defensive play by out-racing a guy on a backcheck that would have sent (I think it was Read) in on a breakaway. He's always been pretty good defensively, but I think he's raised his level the last couple of months.
Still making some bad pinches early in games resulting in too many odd man breaks. They always seem to fix it mid-game, but that has to stop. LGP! |

It didn't hurt that they were able to keep the crowd out of it because everybody on this side of the state (east) was up for it. In fact, I don't recall hearing any "Crosby sucks" chants.

Why was that though? I think its because the Pens smothered them. The Pens outworked and out battled them. Flyers didnt look uninspired in the first period at all. Especially not the first 10 mins. This was their biggest game of the year and they looked like they really wanted it at first...then the Pens woke up. |

Detroit and Chicago both took the play to them, but their forecheck game was constant. Yesterday, it was gone (after 10 minutes) and, more than that, they looked like 18 guys that had never played together before.
Again, full marks to the Pens, they shut them down. The Flyers just didn't do themselves any favors. |

You have to earn it. The Pens showed a lot of heart. We are the better team even without Geno. |

So question ... Sid in the first half of the season sucked because a) Johnston's system sucked, b) he wanted to get Johnston fired, or c) All of the above? |

A) 100%. Johnson's system was so terrible he couldn't get crosby the puck with speed through the neutral zone. He also completely failed motivating the players and getting them to play as a team and not a group of individuals. Plus crosby is too competitive to tank like that. |

I saw no motivation on Sid's game as well. Low compete level. That must be said. |
