Nice blog Noel. The players are not dumb. They know there is no real discipline unless you are a prospect without an alarm clock. Garth sure did act like a GM not worried about his job at the deadline. Maybe he figures he is safe if the owners do not take over until July? |

Nice job Noel.
The players certainly have to take some blame however I truly feel that the coach brings the dicipline and mind set that he wants his team to play with and demands his players play like that or they don't play. The inconsistant effort, sloppy play in the neutral zone and constant turnovers are evidence that the players have no fear or are not concerned they will lose ice time if they make these mistakes. Let's face it we are not talking about making a mistake one time either it's the same mistakes over and over again. The players need to execute the structure the coach has in place however it's the coaches job to make sure it is followed and to hold them accountable if not. This team has the talent to make a run in the playoffs unfortunately this coach IMHO isn't the man to bring them to this next step. I hope I'm wrong. |

This team has not look that good since last years all star break, I don't know if Cappy changed the system are what , but the offense has not looked the same.
They will be lucky to make the playoffs this year and if they play the way they have been it will be a quick series. |

I think a lot of people lose touch with who really needs to go. Its not the coach or this or that player. Its the guy that hired all of them. |

Or the guy who put his faith in this coach last summer when he should have been canned. Totally agree Cpt. for me Snow needs to go as well without a doubt. I think Snow has built a nice team he has just failed at bringing in the guy to run it. |

It's such a trap with Cappy. If we fold and miss the playoffs or lose in first round he is gone. But if we win our first series in 23 yrs, he will get a long, fat new contract. How do i cheer for our boys to tank? How can we deal with Cappy for years to come?
What's funny is that we have a really good record almost as good as last year, but we can see so many glaring problems. I am unabashedly pro-Snow, but not getting a winger for JT at the deadline will be our undoing. I can understand wanting/figuring that Nelson,Strome,Lee would have taken a next step, but at the deadline when it was clear as day that all 3 are having horrendous years, we needed something more.
i'm so conflicted but i am also desperate to see a series win. |

Lets see what coaches get fired this off season and who is available, the last thing this team needs is for cappy to get fired and a young inexperienced coach stepping in
But honestly this is just lazy hockey by the players, doesnt matter who the coach
Teams issues are:
Missing passes resulting in icings
Turnovers at both blue lines
Cant clear the puck when THEY have possesion
One and done offense/ horrible passing to try and set up offense
If they fired cappy today would any of this change? They need to bring up kearns/quine/halmo...someone to show that if you dont play well you will be replaced

Who was snow going to get?
Prices were high and not alot of teams were selling
Watch the ottowa gms interview where he basically said the market was horrible

Yeah he has failed at that among a lot of other things that islander fans turn a blind eye to. You dont call a team with holes a contender and go out and get Shane Prince and call it a day. Capuano shouldn't be here nobody will debate that amd whether some Snow fans care to admit it to anyone let alone themselves that by itself is enough of a reason to fire the guy. Hiring people because they're your friends and not because of their resumes is borderline negligent. |

I love when people say this. That's the GM's job and in a production based business like professional sports you either produce or you get fired. Unless you're Garth Snow of course who incredibly has some fans who make excuses for his lack of results. Guy has got it made. |

Followed by failing at the deadline. Im a perfect world yeah he should have addressed the teams needs in the summer but to continue to sit on his hands is not exactly the right thing to do. |

At the end of the day he has done some good things and the team has talent. I think his biggest mistake was that he has backed this coach when he should have caned him the last couple of off seasons. I think if we have a NHL tenured coach running the ship the team to a player are much much better. Just my opinion.

100% Dan, a different coach running the team I think we aren't even discussing Snow because the team would be much better to a man.

He failed with the coach and not having more grit outside the 4th line. |

I agree. A real coach makes this team A LOT better but that to me is an enormous misstep. Getting shat canned worthy mistake that we are forced to frustratingly watch. As long as Snow is our GM this team will never take that next step. I have yet to see anything that tells me otherwise and I welcome anyone to show me something that'd make me think I'm wrong. |

So every gm that didnt add should be fired? What about gms that subtracted from there team and took away production should they be fired too? No, because waiting for the right move that will help the on ice product is worth it.
Best example is the dallas stars, didnt go for it all at the trade deadline last year waited until the summer to get sharp and oduya
There are alot of things i criticize garth snow for the most being he didnt fire cappy and get dan bylsma but this years trade deadline is not one of them.
Edit: i agree with dan he should have made his moves over the summer, especially with the hamonic situation. That should have been done and over before the season started...like i said theres alot of reasons to bash him, but this trade deadline is not one. |

I think a coach can instill a mind set in players to be grittier and play tough even when it's not in their nature. I think that Crappy talks about the 4th line and that they play the game the right way, well he should demand more of the same, a simple north, south smarter game from the rest of his roster. Instead we get stupid passes and chances taken that lead to turnovers etc. the inconsistantcey of this team screams this coaches inexperience in mho.
