Might as well trade Pouliot if they aren't going to play him over the likes of wars lovejoy and cledds.

At least they would have a top forward prospect in return

1. Mike Sullivan knows whether Pouliot is ready to play. He could have easily said to promote him but he hasn't. That to me is a huge telling sign that Pouliot is not ready. Stop trying to rush prospects. Detroit seems to understand this and thus builds a deep farm system that we need to replicate.

there's nothing wrong with having a small group of forwards, it's just you need to use them correctly. you cant put them out there and expect them to play a heavy hitting game. put them out there and use their speed to generate chances and draw penalties over bigger and slower teams.

no way jose..but yeah Drouin won't come cheap, other fan bases who think they are just going to get him for a whatever forward or D prospect are mistaken

As a MacKinnon fan... I would love to see Drouin and Mac together again.. what do you think the Av's could offer the Lightning to bring Drouin to the Av's? I feel like the convo would start with Barrie.

I think there will be more than few teams sniffing around this. I also know where one certain TB scout has been camped out of late.

That would be a no started for me, Barrie is too important to the team now and in the future. Bigras would be the piece I would be ok with them sacrificing. Zads and Rantanen shouldn't be moved either bc they are the real deal and fill the positional need that the team is currently weak at

Its a tough trade for a team to make, Avs don't need LW help, but the idea is just so tempting

Doubt they are giving him up. Yzerman doesn't lose too many trades either so I'm not sure how wise this would be. Though it does warrant recognition that TBL is struggling just as badly as PIT this season so they might want to change something up.

If a Drouin for Pouliot centric deal were doable, it would be something the Penguins shouldn't even think about. Here are the factors at play on our side:

1) On the left side we have Maatta and Dumoulin who are ahead of Pouliot on the organizational depth chart. Do we really need a top 4 pairing caliber defenseman to play on the third pairing moving forward whether that be Maatta, Dumoulin, or Pouliot? Or is one of those guys best used as a trade chip?

2) Top 6 LW is a much bigger organizational position of need than top 4 LD for the reason stated above and the fact that the only guys we have moving forward that can play that position are Perron and Bennett who aren't signed past this season and there are solid arguments to move on from both.

3) Pouliot isn't on track to meet his Olympic caliber defenseman potential. Guy is getting older and isn't dominating the AHL the way he should. Sullivan coached him for half a season. If he believed he was a better option than the guys who have been playing 3LD, he'd be up, but he's not. Pouliot might be at peak value now when there's still the idea he can be a top pairing guy.

Drouin is in a similar position as Pouliot according to factor 3. There's still the very well founded idea that he can be a top line guy, but he's getting older and can't establish himself there in favor of middle six talent like Kilorn, Calahan, and Filpula. If you can swap out a prospect from an area of strength for a prospect from an area of weakness with the same sort of pedigree and question marks you do it.

Now what's the possibility this happens? I think the general hockey fan base would say that Drouin has a lot more value than Pouliot, but I'm just not quite sure that's true. Both are top 5 prospects at their position. I think Drouin has more value, but it might not be leagues and bounds more. He's just the sexier player.

What the hell is the point of this blog?
RW, I know you don't like to come off as a homer but here is a list of topics far more relevant than some fantasy trade that isn't happening:

- Critical game against the NYI, yeah we have a game today.
- High points of last game and discussion on the Pens carrying them over to this game.
- The implications of a victory in our playoff hunt.
- How the Pens seem have been building up over the past few games, and how Botb Crosby and Malkin are both performing which is a rare occurance and really what sets us apart from every other team in the league.
- Letang solidifying the defense and scoring at an elite forward pace.
- Should Kessel remain on his own line or play with Malkin?
- How good are we gonna look of Kessel can get going too!
- Fleury playing today?

Never say never...

Also.. all of your topics are pretty obvious. Do any of those really need a blog? I don't think so... you can find those blogs anywhere else, like the trib, or post gazette, or pensburgh...

Drouin needs a fresh start elsewhere before it ends his career. Whatever he lacks in the eyes of management won't get solved by NOT playing.
