Hey Senstroll, is this as stupid as I think it is... taking Corsi and using it to calculate actual puck possession time?
Or does it sound like this person really doesn't know what Corsi is?
Ryan's comment highlights a way that "analytics" get over-rated, in my opinion. The difference between a 54.6% and 51.4% possession rate is 3.2%. If you assume that Seabrook and Keith both play25 minutes, that means that Seabrook without Keith "drives possession" by 3.2% of 25 minutes less, or a total of 48 seconds pro-rated over the 25 minutes of projected playing time. Sorry-this is not that big of a deal. Who else is on the ice when they are split? Third/fourth lines? Lots of things can impact a game to create this huge possession difference of about 2 seconds per shift. All I need to do is watch Seabrook play, and be a huge part of winning teams, to know how good the guy is, and he is a lot better than "good".
