I feel like the leafs are the Cleveland Indians of major league. Except they won't surprise everyone and win the pennant. Gardiners gotta find his jobu this season or do it himself |

Meh, that stuff is always risky. What do you do. Gotta give him more then Klefbolm. 7 yrs 35 mill and hope he develops.
Make him earn his money with his play imo. |

He is a character guy. I feel that it would be better to give him an 8 year deal, at $5 million per. Why? Because if he takes a bridge deal, for 2 or 3 years, he'd get around $3 million per. By giving him more, at the front end, then he deserves, we make up for it, during the back half of the contract and it's a reasonable hit, once we become a playoff team and need the cap space. |

Would be advisable to lock him up.

7 years, 35 million? How is he gonna get more than Hamilton coming off a 10g,42pt year?
Pretty sure if the leafs are risking all the years his cap hit is gonna start with a 4 |

I can think of 40 million reasons why. |

6 years, 27 million (4.5 cap hit). He gets overpaid for a couple years, sufficiently paid for a couple, then underpaid for a couple |

If they can lock him up long term at a cap hit 5 million or under if say go for. Normally I wouldn't down for throwing money at unproven commodities but from what I've seen of him he's definitely has the talent and seems to have the character and work ethic to improve his game. He seems like the closest thing to a sure thing on the leafs and that low cap hit could really pay off later on in the rebuild. |

What are the options available now & later? Maatta & Pouliot for the Pens will be comparable - Maatta up next year, but the decision may be made before that.
You guys may have your best option that you will have to pay. How well? How much does he want to stay a Leaf after he becomes UFA in a few years?? |
