I'd like to see C Miller get a shot on that 2nd pair to start the year. I feel like he and Seids could have a nice yin-yang thing going on kinda like Krug-Mcquaid. I'm also all for giving krug a shot at the top 4 but not with Seids. That was ugly last year.
Does anyone think Krug-Mcquaid could handle being the 2nd pair? They're one of the best 3rd pairs in the league, maybe they could be an adequate 2nd? |

I'd hate to see seids go but the B's seem to feel Irwin could be a cheaper replacement on the 2nd or 3rd pairing. Colin miller probably plays a year in providence to get used to the systems. That leaves
Chara-?
Seids-trotman
Krug - mcquaid
Morrow k miller Irwin as extras. And as I said before Irwin could be the cheaper option to seidenberg. Now I was all for franson but that would certainly mean seids is gone which is ok with me too. But more recently I've been wondering if maybe zidlicky on a 1 year deal and then making a big trade for a #1 dman and or using the new cap space to make some good signings next off season. The issue is with that current set of defence were in for a long year. Chara seids are too old mcquaid is too slow and injury prone. Trotman was simply ok last year with Chara. Morrow needs to show up and prove something as does Kevin miller. Only time will tell I guess. |

Id say move kevan miller (800k), then sign cody for 5ish
chara - franson
seids - krug
Irwin - mcquaid
Trotman
Give joe morrow and c.miller a year in THE minors and develop and the can replace Irwin and the the other avaibile spot next year. Also have zboril and carlo in line for a spot in the 2017 season

Still think trades for players like josi, Carlson, etc. should be explored. We have more than enough to get them done, and those teams are stocked on the blueline, Nashville esepcially |

Seids has to be moved eventually, the guy was on for every goal against last season. We just cant afford to give him up this season unless we get a player in return or franson is guaranteed. This is going to be a very shaky d regardless. |

The problem is that we have 5 or 6 guys that seem like good bottom pairing defensemen right now, but need to fill 4 holes. Can't ship out Seidenberg and have 4 kids playing with McQuaid and Chara. Need to keep that veteran presence, and shipping out Seids for Franson is a lateral move (although for a offensive minded instead of Defensive). Signing Franson and keeping Seids is the best move, as Ty alluded to. I think Irwin should make the top 6. Maybe pairing him with Chara?
Chara Irwin
Franson Seids
McQuaid Krug
Miller
I like that. With Trotman knocking at the door, and develop Morrow and C. Miller another year. And if Franson doesn't get signed, slide K. Miller in next to seids for a shot; he played very well before his injury last year.. |

I agree with pretty much everything you said. Just wish I knew what they had going on in there heads.......
Before the draft I would have said we signed none of OUR UFA(meaning Quaider) and if you made me trade a D man then I would have Chara and then Seidenberg as my first two to go.
But now........?
The simple reality is that they must be thinking of the grouping of Quaider, Krug, Miller, Morrow, Miller, Arnesson, Trotman and Irwin that TWO or THREE of them are definitely ready for top 4 pairing time.
But there is mixed signals from the management group right now.
If Trotman and Morrow and C. Miller are ready based on your internal evaluations then let them be the guys you go with into next season!
If you are unsure then you may be in the running for a Franson or Green.
The fact that they were interested in a Green at the start of FA tells me that they think they need a proven top four puck mover..........but now they are okay with playing the kids they have...........?
Um, what?
You think you have the talent ready OR you don't. Green or Franson are $5-6 per year players........the kids are rookies that are making less than $1 mil per.
This tells me that they are TRULLY on the fence as to wether they think they are contenders or not.
If that's the case, I would say, don't make a signing just to give the fans an "illusion" that, "hey guys we are going for the Cup. Look we just spent $5+ mill per on a D man."
Screw it! If you are that unsure the right move is to play the rooks and rebuild. Don't add any contracts for B.S. purposes. |

Agree with this, technically they would make a solid pairing

I've read a lot of threads pertaining to the defence latley. and why anyone thinks Colin Miller is going to be a staple on blue line this year is mind boggling... now I don't mean that because the kid is bad i mean it because he's on a two contract like Joe morrow so in all likely hood we don't see them on the B's much this year. you have one ways with Irwin, trotman, k miller, krug, mqcuaid, chara, seids.
perhaps instead of looking at moving just seids we should get sweeney to look at:
move seidenberg to ARZ for picks and then move k miller and 3rd rnd pick to NYR for yandle.
that would leave us room to sign someone like franson and still have cap flexibility as yandles only a 2.6 mil cap hit for one year ( he could also be resigned if he has a good year)
that would give you
chara-yandle
Krug-Franson
K Miller- Mcquaid
irwin as the extra
morrow and c miller take a year in providence and then move up next year to replace the guys like irwin that don't get resigned. |

Why in the world would NSH trade Josi? He's a top defender on most teams in the league and he makes peanuts. |

Mcquaid, K.Miller
Extra: Irwin, Trottman, C.Miller, J.Morrow |

they need cap space, they're clearly not resigning yandle so why not move him for a cheaper alternative 3rd pairing guy like trotman or K miller and a couple later picks? |

Im not disagreeing with your point about their cap situation, but given how much they paid for yandle, I could see them keeping him until the deadline to maximize his return.
This is just a guess, but I think the Rangers would be looking for a minimum of a 2nd rounder plus a prospect and a roster player/OR an NHL ready prospect or close to it to fill in their bottom line. (C. Miller/Morrow/Trotman). Even then, I doubt they would trade him. I think they would eat half of Boyle's salary and trade him for air before they trade Yandle. |
