JV seems to get hurt often. I know it comes with the territory with his physical style...but just saying. |

good to hear Jake will be training with Roger full time - he should be well prepared for Sept. This team is treating him like their crown jewel. |

I love the Sedins as guys, and totally appreciate what they've done for the franchise as well as the community but if they are at all willing to accept a trade I would be all for it. I would even be willing to take back a bad contract or two if it meant getting a high 1st and a very high end prospect. They will keep us in mediocrity for years to come. Maybe thats okay, but having them walk and getting nothing in return will sting for years to come. |

I would rather pick in the 8-16 range for the next couple years and have the Sedins around to mentor the latest crop of prospects (if they so choose), than leave the team without quality vets a la Edmonton's decade rebuild. If we are going tank/rebuild, I would keep 2 former MVP candidates's on the decline than a bunch of defensemen in their prime (Edler, Tanev). I think they would garner more in return and ensure we tank further |

You'd keep them for all 3 years? |

As it stands now, yes. I dont think the influx of youth will be great enough to pass off the leadership before then. If Horvat, Virtanen, Bae, or whomever surpass them as first liners and it begins to be "their" team, then I say move them. OR if it becomes a Naslund situation, then I say get value for them. But if they indicate they will never leave until they retire, then I say keep them
(I will also say Cap hits will play a part too, but I cant see the team being so competitive they cant afford the Sedin's hit) |

My recap from last night:
Now that was fun. Good thing we were very early or else we wouldn't have had a seat.
Sorry I didn't see everyone from our seats so don't have reports on several players
Obviously these are all true Canucks, they have mastered the most important of all Canuck skills - the ability to make the goalie look like the 2nd best in the world. 2nd only to the goal posts.... Maybe next year they can add a remedial course on the purpose of the net.
My primary focus was on the offensive side, so no defensive comments. I ignored the goalies. Everyone had their moments where they looked great and those which they would have liked a redo on
I saw a lot of the following but they did not stand out to me in any particular way (not bad - just nothing special):
Cederholm, Hamilton, Hutton, Lemcke, McEneny, Neill, Sautner, Gardiner, Pettit, Stevens.
Jordan "I will drag this puck through the other team 3 times" Subban. AKA "SparkPlug". Also AKA "The Human Zamboni" - He always had the puck on his stick. Where everyone else was playing 3 on 3, he was playing 1 - 5. He did an excellent job keeping the ice clear with his backside. The kid has skills, fast and able to stickhandle with speed. He needs to build up his lower body strength so he can stay upright in the tough areas. Also needs to be introduced to his teammates. I wonder if he was able to pull the bus by himself?
Lukas Jasek - Fast, Slippery, Skilled and can shoot the puck. He stood out in the crowd. To me the best player on the ice. Not the strongest player on the ice - I hope they introduce him to the weight room.
Matthew Lane - Fast and talented - stood out at times
Jared McCann ("McCannon") - Another one that stood out. He has a killer hard shot. The posts and the boards got a real workout. Overall looked like potential waiting to be tapped. Not NHL ready yet but he will get there and make his mark. Always seemed to be in the right spot. Used his team mates.
Dmitry Zhukenov - Obviously extremely talented. Not quite as fast, slippery or skilled as Jasek but you could tell it was there. It felt like he was not overly comfortable, not really settled in yet. All very understandable given that he was new to North America. Give him time in the CHL to get settled and he will shine.
So much for the boys - then there was Stewart Mackenzie. Physically, he is totally in a different league than the rest of them. He looked like a seasoned NHL pro. He could have pulled the bus by himself. I see why Benning signed this guy. He WILL be an NHL player - likely bottom 6. He worked extremely hard and was consistent. Seemed to be a jack-of-all-trades type of guy. All around decent skills but nothing that made him look better than anyone else. However, you knew when he was on the ice, he was working hard, he was creating space, he was in control of the play around him. It was a sense a presence that said: "I am here and I own this ice". Physically, he was the only one that I saw that was NHL ready. Skill set will never be more than adequate. Will be a fan favorite.
The trio that I enjoyed watching the most and who seemed to be the most dominate was the line of McCann, Jasek and Stewart.
Of all the people there, the person that attracted the most attention was Trev. The kids were drooling over the autographs on their Canucks jersey. The teenage girls were having problems staying out of his lap. I see nothing has changed since he was 18! Trev has the fire starting skill nailed with the girls. |

If the Sedins get replaced as the 1st line they will become untradable. You are aware we are going for a rebuild? |

But did anyone score 5 goals (we'll need to name 5 goal performances from now on "scored a Mc David")? Thats the measure for a player at a prospect camp you know... |

I am well aware, but I look at Edmonton and I look at Detroit. I would rather be Detroit than Edmonton in that Sedins=Zetterberg/Datsyuk, aging stars that the influx of new players such as Tatar and Nyqvist are learning from. Whereas Edmonton's golden child Eberle, preappointed as the future captain of the Oilers, was passed over for a 5/6 defensemen.
I support the proper asset management of literally everyone except the two of them as I think they are valueable to the future shape of the team. The twins were taught by Trevor, who was well past his prime, and they can teach the next wave. Just my opinion |

If the Sedins are replaced as the 1st line because the kids have stepped up and are deserving of the 1st line, that isn't so bad. Sedins may still have value.
If the Sedins are replaced because their play has fallen off and they are at the end of their careers... well what can you do? Sedins have little to no value.
Would it be better to move them and get picks? yes. I still don't see it happening unless it is in the last year of their deal, tdl, and want to be traded to a contender. We eat salary, at get picks/prospects.
If they stick around and mentor while holding down the 2nd line and 2nd pp, that could also serve the youth and club well. I'd rather have the picks but I don't think with their careers and time/community work in Vancouver, they will be asked to waive. It'll may have to come from them. |

If our rebuild takes as long as the Oilers then we might as well extend their contracts. Plus the Oiler youth had Ryan Smyth, Hemsky, and Horcoff and that didn't work to well. |
