Connor McDavid will do wonders for the future...maybe?

PS: I think Carolina has the inside track.

Ditto, I breezed through and choked on my coffee at "worst case scenario, 9 or 10th"...

With the competition in the West and the sad case of offense in Arizona, that is looking like a pretty solid year IMO.

Agreed. Arizona is going to finish near dead last in that division. And as for Gagner hitting 70 points. Well, six games, 0 points. I don't see him breaking 30-40 at this rate if he plays 82 games.

Sounds like Mr. Tanner is crashing back to earth with his expectations; he is right in that they need to inject some youth into their line-up, but they're just not quite ready yet. Next year perhaps.

Yeah but that 'worst case scenario ' was laughable. This team can be much, much worse as is.

I see the Coyotes doing well at some point. But they need a true center and a star winger to go along with that talented d-pool and good goaltending. Tank this year, hope for Eichel, trade for a quality set of wingers, and boom. Watch out for a playoff team.

You mean building from the Wings with a bunch of hobbits is NOT the way to do it?

Look at the bottom teams in the league and their center issues:
Edmonton: Relying on RNH without a solid 2-3 center.
Carolina: Both Staals out = no wins.
Arizona: Enough said.
Colorado: Exception to the rule.
Sabres: A bunch of 2nd liners currently.
St Louis: Missing Statsny a lot right now.
Go on and on. Injuries to key centers, or lacking them completely is going to kill your team while those with center depth: Montreal, Boston, Detroit, Nashville, Pittsburgh, LA, San Jose, Anaheim, they are contenders (or at least competitive as is the case with Detroit, Nashville)

Why do I have to explain this?

Finishing in the playoffs is good.

Finishing in the bottom 5 is good.

Drafting 10-15 kind of sucks, thus, the worst case scenario is finishing 9th or 10th. I would way rather finish last.

That's not it at all. The fact is, the team we were expecting over the summer and the team we got in October are not even close to the same thing. And I mean personnel wise, not performance wise.

Don't worry, Arizona is probably 4-8, man. You should be hoping to steal this draft lottery anyway, McDavid or Eichel will REALLY help in the long run.

Well, the reason for the anger is that this isn't really necessary. The team has a ton of talent in the minors. They have drafted well and have a lot of nice pieces. They just chose to play none of them.

If they run this roster out all year, the problem is they won't be bad enough to finish that low and they probably won't make the playoffs.

Management and coaching must have felt the kids weren't ready, Tippett coaches according to the talent the GM puts in front of him. Common knowledge he doesn't like/trust young players too.

I get it. I thought you meant the lowest they could finish was 9th or 10th.

Give these readers a break tho, that blog was way to long and I doubt anyone actually read the whole thing.

No, it's really more about catering a to an average at best group of vets. And sure, Tippett's tendencies probably also play into it, but the fact is, I don't care how "ready" a 20 or 22 year old is, if he was good enough to be signed to a contract by an NHL team, then he is better than Chipchura or Klinkhammer.

Well you should have seen the original, it had foot notes and an appendix.
