He's making more not playing for Van than he is playing for TO. He's had 25 mil in career earning, and if he hasn't set himself up for the future with that kind of money then he really is a serious wack job. I wonder if he gave 10% to the church

Yes, my thinking was basically along these lines. He's making more than $3 million from the Canucks this year and I assume he's well set up for the rest of his life with the money that he's earned to this point.

I've also noticed that he's put some promotional-type posts on his Twitter this summer, which made me think that he's dabbling in outside business ventures such as a raw food company. I think he'll have plenty of opportunities outside hockey when he's ready to do that.

But first, the Leafs. And a chance to try to "make like Mason."

Most of his career was in Florida which has no state taxes and he's only paid hot wife fees for a week or 2, the real fees will be paid when she realizes that he is to weird even for her church.

I have to laugh and shake my head (or perhaps it's better to laugh and then shake your head - in case you're a @#$@# bobblehead) at the culture we live in, where $1 million dollars is now basically pocket change. Athletes (whose only real skills are to put the ball in the hoop, shoot a puck, or run fast, or wrestle giant moose (in the Greek traditional style, though) are considered the finest of society. I mean, some of these contracts are so f*cking ridiculous that the recipient could literally buy a country in Africa or South America. What the f*ck? these people are making massive amounts more than neurosurgeons and airline pilots for gawd sakes. Maybe next time a point guard can get rid of your brain tumour. Uggg, don't get me started.

As far as low risk, I guess if wasting a million dollars doesn't matter then good job I guess. Although, I was in favor of not buying him out and letting him play out his contract. So I was in favor of paying him $4.25m for this year...
