oh well as long old alien face and recently fired coach Adam Oates thinks it was a good move - then it was a GOOD MOVE! |

Mike Augello: Carlyle Extension Much Ado About Nothing(Except Money) - mikeinbuffalo
what has really p*sssed me off during this whole Carlyle renewal is what Oates said and Elliote Friedman also said something similar in his artical. Oates said the it tells the fans to be quite, and Friedman said that the fans aren't going to dictate this move and that was good.
I get that the fans don't have a direct say but when there is such a widespread opinion and people are looking at this as a good move solely in spite of the fan base it kinda feels like a slap in the face. It's sorta like we want all your money but don't bother having an opinion |

I don't take it that way at all. I think Nonis is just saying that he has to do what he thinks is best for the team now and in the future even though some fans won't agree with it.
That's what I like about Nonis actually is that he has patience. He won't do a knee jerk move or trade a good kid for a vet just to make the team better for a year but suffer down the road for it. The main problem here in the past is GM's trading away kids and draft choices away. The league has many ex leafs doing well someplace else.

Oates had to say what he did if he wants to be considered for the assistants job. He would never get the job if he said Toronto should have hired a new coach. |

Said it before but these would be great:
Robbie Ftorek
Jim Playfair

I have to agree with this. It seems like a big positive being made of this move is to send the middle finger to the fanbase. "Shut up, give us your money, and watch us continue to suck." That's probably just another addition to this terrible situation for the Leafs organization. "Let's be sure to put the fans in their place. If we're going to suck, we'd like to do it comfortably."
Maybe Oates is working on getting his resume ready to be one of those assistant coaches.
It's a good spin effort at the very least. Let's change the focus from the terrible season we've had and the bad decision to keep Carlyle and make it the fault of the fanbase. |

At this point, I would be happy with a completely disaster season, if it ended up with McDavid.

New Jersey assistant coach Mike Foligno(was part of Carlyle's staff in Anaheim), former NHL head coach Scott Arniel were two names I've heard, not sure how much truth is behind it. |

just not bad enough to get mcdavid. More garbage and get a good player out of it, but not a franchise guy to build around. It's the Leafs. |
