Maybe Sven's points explosion after committing to full 200 foot game will be all he needs to keep it going. If he can score at the pace we expect from him and still be defensively responsible, he's going to be a beast!

Maybe they should send the entire Oilers roster to Abby to train under Ward

I've always thought Sven was a good pick. But to say he'll be a beast is a little much. Hope he indeed has turned it around though.

We have a very defensive minded system guy in OKC as well. Look at the excellent job he's done with Marincin, Klefbom and Arcobello. Still work to be done, but things look like they are going the right way.

Disregard claim that Baertschi has been recalled. The source of said information was inaccurate and I didnt research this before posting, which is abnormal for me. Sigh.

I'll forgive you this time. Mostly because I'm happy he stayed down. Get some playoff experience!

You know, I'm pretty sure you could just say Johnny Gaudreau and you'd get a lot of hits.

So now there is another draft rankings (NHL Central Scouting) out and it has Sam Bennett ranked as number 1.

The top 7 for North America are:
1. Sam Bennett
2. Aaron Ekblad
3. Sam Reinhart
4. Leon Draisaitl
5. Michael Dal Colle
6. Jake Virtanen
7. Nick Ritchie

So if the Flames pick 5th, and none of the top 4 drop out (hoping Reinhart might although I don't know why he would), who should the Flames pick?

Based on those rankings, they aren't really stretching to take Virtanen or Ritchie over Dal Colle. I think if it gets to that point they will take Virtanen. It's just the combination of his size, his position, and he is easily the player that they have scouted the most whether intentional or not.

About where are Virtanen and Richie ranked with Europeans in there too?

Also depends on whether Tod Button agrees with Craig Button as Craig has Virtanen rated in the 40's....

I think Virtanen is a 10-15 pick. I compare him to Keith Tkachuk. Gritty scorer but not a play maker.

Agreed! I think in the 5 range with Europeans included, you look more to Dal Colle, Nylander or Kapanen than to Virtanen or Ritchie.

Yeah exactly. Although I don't think Burke is scared to draft off the board, if I remember correctly Morgan Rielly was projected to be drafted much later than 5th.

I really like Dal Colle as oour pick if we can't get one of Drasaitl or Bennett, I really don't think Reinhart or Ekblad drop past 1/2 but you never know how crazy teams can get I'll reserve my final decision for after the draft combine

And is it just me or is it just awesome hearing from Conroy about anything I really like him part of the Flames staff!

I really hate how NCS does their ranking, splitting up NA and Euro players. You never get a good idea as to who really fits where. That said, I dont think it would affect the top 7 that you noted. What is interesting to me is a couple of players that are really low.

Roland McKeown at 27
Connor Bleackley at 35
Jack Glover at 38

Add in the Euro rankings and it for s entirely possible all 3 of those guys are available with our 2 2nd rnd picks. I wojld also look at taking Ben Thomas with one of our 3rd rnd picks.

Based on those rankings, they aren't really stretching to take Virtanen or Ritchie over Dal Colle. I think if it gets to that point they will take Virtanen. It's just the combination of his size, his position, and he is easily the player that they have scouted the most whether intentional or not.

Exactly what we need considering what our other top prospects are; smaller and skilled. A Keith Tchachuk type playing beside, say Baertschi and Monahan, would be perfect. He opens up space, can finish and beat the crap out of anyone that bothers the other 2.

If thats what Virtanen can become, I'm sooooooooo on board.
