How do we know it was just because of that? He took some convincing to sign his extension a couple seasons ago, wasn't sure about the direction of the team. Then Yzerman buys out his best friend in the offseason. It's a business, I'm sure Marty gets that. But Tampa showed zero loyalty to a guy like Vinny, who helped bring them a cup, and contributed a ton to the community. Yet people get all pissy about St. Louis wanting to move on because he doesn't see eye-to-eye with the management? Seems like a double standard to me.

I'm just saying that this may not be the knee-jerk reaction that many are making it out to be. Just because he hadn't aired his dirty laundry in the public before this, doesn't mean it wasn't there.

One the surface, yeah it looks bad I guess. I dunno, I guess a have a liberal view on team loyalty these days. A team can trade a player anytime, or ask them to waive their NTC, and most times people applaud these moves. But if a player ever asks for a trade, they're generally labelled as selfish.

Well, he's guaranteed an extra $10M and has to work for 2 less years. So it's $10M and 2 years of his / their life together.

Or he could sign another contract for those 2 extra years and add to that additional $10M.
