Thanks Zak!
I think they'd be wise to retain Provorov, and I think they will, he played solidly for the team last year and gave them that extra veteran presence on "D".
It's time for Columbus to stop drafting and start winning, I don't have any names of the top of my head, maybe Tage Thompson out of Buffalo or Elias Pettersson out of Vancouver, but with the amount of young players and picks Waddell has available to him I'd like to see him take a big swing at someone of note. |

I agree in that I would like to see, and expect, GMDW to swing big at someone. However, it will more than Thompson or Pettersson. 1) IMO Kevyn and Jarmo are not looking to trade Thompson; 2) although I like Pettersson, and believe he would come back to what he was, right now he's a mystery wrapped in an enigma. So unless GMDW has the solution for straightening him out he would be down on my priority list.
He'll take a run at Marner - providing Marner is even open to Columbus. But I'm not sure what that would do to the lockerroom chemistry. To me Marner seems like a "glamour" guy, lasered into the flash, and big bucks. If it gets to $14MM AAV then let Las Vegas, New York, or LA pay him those dollars.
I hope he checks on the availability of Jason Robertson. I'm still seeing reports Dallas is quietly floating him out there. Again, IMO I believe he's a better 200 ft. player, and would be a better fit in the lockerroom. Also, he'll be a UFA next summer, so he'd have to sign a long term contract with us to be traded. But probably would come in at a couple million less per year than Marner.
If both those options go sideways, then contact GM Kevyn Adams in Buffalo and ask about a trade for JJ Peterka. He wants out of Buffalo. Picks and prospects (not Mateychuk; Fantilli; KJ; Kiril: Voronko) so really anyone in Cleveland, might do that.
With Jarmo now in Buffalo I have no idea how working with them would go.

Agree with 2 that suggest it is time to start making another move forward. I would be trying to check in with Canucks, but definitely not for Elias Petterson, I would be checking in about Demko.
Although he has an injury history, he would be a good pickup for the Jackets.

I'd listen to offers on Demko, but Merzlikins would have to be going the other way. I wouldn't have both of them. For sure I'm keeping Greaves, as he appears to be a good fit as backup, and maybe 1B.

03,
Why not try hard to get Marner, the legitimate top 10 player in the NHL that the CBJ has never had? A player of that ability is needed for the team to win the Cup, and the CBJ has a group of good young players to put with him.
If you can convince me that one of the young players currently on the roster can be the massive superstar and dominant player in the league Marner is, I'll be happy not to see him get signed. But IMO that player has not shown himself yet.
I'm all for giving Mangipanie a shot here. |

Convince me that Marner really wants to be here, and not just use us for leverage in other negotiations.
I agree that he would absolutely be the "move the needle" player we need. But personally, if I were the GM my first push would be for Jason Robertson. At least confirm that Dallas will not trade him, or we can't satisfy GM Nill enough to make a trade. We'd know that before July 1, since some of the pieces would be one, or both, of our 1st rndrs this year.
If that fails - then continue to pursue Marner. I'm pretty sure GMDW will be stirring both pots. With Robertson we'd be giving up picks/prospects; while getting Marner will only take lotsa, lotsa $$$$$.

I agree with that 100%, I did not see the 5.8 million number. |

I will try:
1. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ (+ or - a couple $$$)
2. Quiet community instead of Toronto, LA, NYC, etc. fishbowl
3. Chance to win the Cup,
4. Very supportive fan base.
5. Will be immediate face of the team/team leader.
6. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ (oops, already did that one).
7. Free membership at Double Eagle or Murifield Village |

So what is his asking price, or what do the stat geeks set as his pay rate? |

I'm hearing starting at $12MM could go up to $14MM AAV. When GMDW makes his pitch, I would be okay at $12 - 13.5MM AAV. (Even 13.5 is high for my likens.) Above that I don't believe he's worth it.
I'm sure someone will throw $14MM ++ at him, and he'll jump to the highest bidder. IMO he's about the $$$, THEN the team. See if he makes me a liar, and comes to Columbus.
But here's something to cogitate on - Draisaitl starts his $14MM AAV contract next season. Paying Marner $14MM would be an insult to Draisaitl. Draisaitl can, and has, carried the Oilers (6 x 100 pt. regular seasons) when McJesus is hurt. And Leon racks up playoff points, 141 in 96 games. Alas, no Cup. Marner has 1 x 100 pt season; and not even an ECF on his resume'. And I believe he's < ppg playoff performer
Rantanen signed with Dallas @ $12MM AAV. He as 2 x 100 pt. regular seasons; and 123 pts. in 99 playoff games.
WHY, why, why is everyone putting Marner on some pedestal, throwing this obscene money at him ?? He's probably, maybe, only worth somewhere between $10 - 12.5MM AAV. I'm sure there are comparisons out there showing that.
The fun begins in a couple weeks. |

I though Zak was talking about Mangiapane.
Pay Marner $15 million if necessary. The CBJ has never had a player of his quality on the roster, if they want to win a Cup they have to have at least one play of his ability.
