Wow. Great stuff from Marchand.

Personally I think the day and age for going out and trying to hurt your fellow nhl players should be over.

Entertaining, absolutely.

True competition, sure.

Hockey's skill aspect has grown to offset the reduced physicality and as much as I loved that part of the game growing up its just stupid and short sided for the game overall.

I think the Bruins fans did enough complaining for him.

Hopefully the fans can move on now.

That’s awesome. Would love Marchand on my team, as much as I hate playing against him. Good luck tomorrow night. Hope you guys force a game 7 and he gets a chance to get back in.

I don’t like Marchand but I like that play even less. A star player gets knocked out by a sucker punch and no suspension. Shameful

Yeah I much prefer Florida win the EC over NYR or Boston, but that play has to be suspended. It is something Tie Domi would do decades ago. Deliberate intent to injure.

Marchand and Bennett are rats and they do rat things. Shocking.

Your basing this take on skill and skill alone? There are 4 officials and a whole Department of Player Safety that muck up that equation. Across the league they're wildly inconsistent and get this wrong way more than they get it right.

I think they officials should have less involvement and guys should be allowed to police themselves more. You would see less Marchand's and Bennett's in the league if there were real and immediate consequences for acting like a (frank)ing douchebag. The instigator rule has absolutely given rise to the rats.

This. Although could deal without the John Scott/pure enforcer types that teams employed, i do think self policing should be a thing. General toughness should go up for everyone.

I agree. I would rather more a Shawn Thornton type in todays game a guy like Deslauriers or even Reeves in his younger years. A guy who could skate the 4th line or play 3rd paring D. The pure goons and scheduled brawls were lame IMO.

EDIT: But if a guy is out there being a rat and officials and the league are going to give license to it. Then the son of female dog should be looking for his (frank)ing teeth before the zamboni sweeps them up. Yes, that goes for Marchand too just to appease you female genitalias from other fanbases.

Hey, not all Canucks fans hate the Bruins, as the Bruins are my 2nd team, thanks to #4 Bobby Orr.

Marchand has been a great player for the Bruins, gotta like a player with his talent.
Also, that Pacific Gem fella is a bit of a twit.

I hate him as an opponent for my team for the poop he pulls, but I enjoyed seeing him being so blunt about it, well done. I wish hockey had more guys that had the same mindset.

This. I miss the true grinder types that did the hitting and fighting but also were good enough to keep up with the game for the most part.

I miss Shawn Thornton. Those were the days.

Agreed! I've always felt Thorty never got enough credit for his skills. I still remember that leg kick back-hand penalty shot that he got past Pavelec of the Jets.

He was the man! I miss #22 dearly. Only one time I can remember him crossing the line was with Orpik. Which was really odd, they were and still are friends according to what he's said in interviews.

"And if I have to get hurt to win, if I have to hurt someone to win, I don’t care. That’s part of it."

I give Marchand credit for saying this because most players (and coaches, GMs...etc) don't, but that mentality right there is the biggest problem with the NHL. It's becomes an "anything goes" game. The ends justify the means. Take the other team's best players out with cheap shots. Take a fine or suspension. As long as you win the series. That's a lousy way to earn a Cup in my opinion. And so many people will say "Too bad! Keep your head up, snowflake! This is HOCKEY!" until it happens to one of YOUR BEST PLAYERS. Then how do you feel?
