Why won’t prospects walk the stage? They do it in all the other successful pro sports that do a decentralized draft.

I put the quote below from Burke. It sounds like a stand and wave, maybe go up and shake hands with Bettman?

Unless I’m missing something, prospects gets their named called via screen when they’re picked, do some sort of acknowledgement and sit down(assuming they pay to go to the event. It’s a lot different then standing with the whole team that drafted you). The other question is the “on the floor” deals. Do they add time for teams to call each other? The expense is now all on the kids and will any skip?I’m just not sure how you even implement it. Here are quotes from the article:

It’s not going to be anywhere close to the same. You mean, you’ve been on that stage. You welcome kids to organizations. Do you have a thought or two or can you share a story or a thought on what that moment is like?

Burke: “No, you’re right. I don’t have to add anything. You’re right. And we’re taking that away. So the kids will still stand up. They’ll still hug his mom and dad, but it won’t be the same. It won’t be in front of 19,000 people. Won’t be the same at all.

I just don’t see the need to fuss about something that works very well for the NFL and NBA.

As with 90+% of the time, you’re right. They have made it work, and Bettman has some NBA background. This announcement feels like more is coming. The same as the cap each year. It goes from going up 5 million to 1 million.

I guess the views of kids shaking hands with a chunk of the organization, deals on the floor like the old stock market and the fan experience just feel like they have been the fun part of the weekend. Some financial news has been delivered at the higher levels that won’t be announced for at least a week. I can’t even speculate on it until the docs are posted. When Owen Power was picked that was a unique year, and he was surrounded by friends and family as he held up his Sabres hat. I don’t think that’s the last we’ve seen of that situation of families with FaceTime or cameras going waiting for reactions.

Of the 3 events mentioned Plse get rid of the all star game. It truly is a waste of time and is more for rich players to take a vacation from playing a sport. If they must do an all star game do it at the end of season like football or do it at the beginning of the season to peak some interest otherwise just get rid of it. I believe if they had a vote among hockey fans most would want it gone.

I think you’re right. They’ve added elements like “the draft” to that game and it’’s just not fun TV for a lot of people. In person, probably a different story. My understanding is that owners voted “overwhelmingly” to decentralize the draft. There are still owners who want the All Star game to bring attention to the market. It feels like fan input has little impact. The Olympics aren’t “must see viewing” for people but players want to represent their country. There is a sizeable gap between fans, players and owners.

Lazy ass redwings play like poop for 2 periods then show up for the third. Losing streak now at 3. Also play Lyon next game.
