Really good game by the Jets. They went toe to toe with the defending champs and held their own. Very encouraging. Dillon Samberg may not be coming out of the line up again. |

Samberg played night and day better than Stanley. He deserves the nod over Stanley although I suspect tonight there will be some rotation on both D and on the forwards due to the back-to-back games.
Jets had two goals scored against them while one of our players was without a stick.
Good win by the Jets in the thin Denver air against the Stanley Cup Champs! |

At times I didn't recognize how well this team played. They skated, hit, fore checked, back checked, covered for each other and played hard the entire game. There was a few defensive lapses that ended in Colorado goals but at no time did I feel the Jets were out worked or outplayed.
Its still early but at least they are starting to play like they have the talent too. The game against LV will be important to see if they play the way they did against Colorado it will show it wasn't a one off game. |

It wasn't until his 2nd last season with the Sens that he started to develop into a dominant D-man and he was actually 25 not 27 so my bad.

Correct assessment of Chara. Some might. even argue that it was his last season at the Sens where he really began to shine.

Jets stunk in the first. Rittich was very sub-par in his first start. Stanley played the three-on-one about as badly as a defenseman could possibly play that situation. Jets lose a game I expected them to lose anyways.
The bigger picture is this. To make the playoffs the Jets have to get 50% of the points on the road and 70% at home. Last year they. accomplished that task on the road. but fell way short at home. This year they need to be a much much better home team or they can kiss any chance of the playoffs goodbye. Approximately 75 % of playoff-bound teams hit these goals in their home games & the last 25% just have really good road records. However, 100% of the teams that hit those two marks made the playoffs.
...So a 50-50 road split this week for the Jets would be fine.

reality check, this will not be our year and that's ok!!!
the team has some good young forwards coming up in Perfetti, Lucous, Lambert, Chibrikov, Rathevsky and McGroarty. D could use a little more talent but i still believe in Heinola and Sollomonson (SP?) is off to a great start in Sweeden's top league!!
the massive issue and what will alter the landscape for the next 10 years the MOST is how they handle Shief, PLD and Helle!!!!!! all three will be UFA's after next season and in my honest opinion all three have to be moved!!! I'd happily lock up PLD but he wont sign here, Helle's best years wont fit in with our mini rebuild and all he does is keep us drafting in 12-17 range when we need to be drafting right now in top 10. getting 1 each of a top Goalie, Center and D prospect that hits in these deals is KEY!!!!!!!
in the meantime, trading Stanley for Puljo or Garland will help. going back in time and playing Comrie two more games to keep him, not waiving Kovacevek, trading Dillon at last years deadline when teams were over paying would've also been good |
|
|
|
it would be very wise not to wait and see this year!!! be proactive top make deadline deals happen sooner than later.
potential targets.
How long will Toronto hope to win? Dubas and Shanny should be calling Chevy and saying name your price for Helle. seriously, this will not a deal or even fair trade. it should be 2 - firsts, a top prospect and a salary dump to make the money work.
Carolina, if they have a similar goalie injury or question mark situation this year like last they to should be in on Helle but i also see them in on Shief or PLD, they need that forward help come playoff time.
Dillon will be a hot commodity come playoff time, teams always over value and over pay that type of player....see ben chairot
Wheels, reatin half his salary to move him to any contender interested. |

Not an easy start to the schedule, so let's not hit the panic button yet.

i have no panic, just my honest expectations, making the playoffs to lose in round one is not a good plan |

Sorry Benny, think I may have accidentally flagged your comment, dang touch screens are touchy!.. lol
Hopefully Ehlers isn't out too long.
Big game tonight on HNIC, heard Spezza is coming out of retirement to fight The Pionky-Tonk Man... đ |

Yes the Leafs are apparently calling up the cavalry to fight the "tough" Jets! lol |

The Jets really need to stay away from that kind of stuff, they're not built for it and with such a terrible penalty kill it usually ends up costing them on the scoresheet at some point which we saw last night. |

Big minute players on bad teams tend to have bad +/-. Thatâs why Ovechkin has pushed records in both directions. Itâs not a relevant stat.
I will accept that Chara did not become the Norris caliber version of himself until Ottawa, but that wasnât the argument. At 22, he was playing 22:52 average.
He improved thanks to good coaching, and an elite team around him. Winnipeg can offer Logan Stanley neither. Nor can Logan Stanley offer any of the skills or hockey IQ Chara demonstrated before he was Stanleyâs age to give two organizations the confidence to play him far more often than the Jets have ever played Stanley. |

So the Jets lose 4-1 to the hated Leafs on HNIC and this site is crickets... lol |

Stanley has been alright the last two games, so since i am very hard on him i will give him props when deserved. I will though also point out, this is the Demelo affect. Stanley / Dillon is hot garbage, Stanley/ Demelo, acceptable. Demelo gets a lot of hate in here when he is by far our most steady D, yes he had some rough games early this year but still, our most steady D. we should have sold high on Dillon last deadline when teams were over paying for his type of D, hopefully we can again at this years deadline, or better yet....now!!! also Heinola / Scmidt pair have been good when paired together so lets move out Dillon now.
id take garland or puljo for dillon. id also check in on Ethan Bear, can we do harkins or apples for Bear? |

Brawn, unbelievable reach, hard shot, and tough in corners are all Stanley attributes. Skating ability is currently a problem that can be worked on and potentially fixed. Hockey IQ is something Stanley definitely lacks and is one of those things no one can fix.
