I could actually see it. His wife seems to love the spotlight, I could totally see her convincing him to go to LA.

I actually think it could be an incredibly smart move for Edmonton. Get an enormous haul and build the team around Drai and Bouchard.

If they got back Byfield and a few firsts, they probably wouldn't even take that huge of a step back. They'd have cap space for free agency and those firsts to trade for players that can help now.

Considering that Edmonton could not win the cup again this year, some might think its time for a change. Moving him anywhere for some valuable assets that can give the Oilers more depth like Florida had could be the right move. In the meantime, the Kings can land a superstar and build on what they have. If they really are losing Kopitar, then they will need something to fill that void.

I don't think its that crazy that this could happen, but the Kings might not be the only team that could land him.

The only way Edmonton is trading him anywhere is if he’s explicitly told them he is categorically not re-signing period full stop. If that’s the case (which I doubt now that Draisitl has signed), it would be organizational malpractice not to (tho organizational malpractice is kind of the Oilers MO…). I just don’t know what the Kings have that they could trade that would add up to a McDavid.

I would love to see it happen solely for the Oiler tears tho.

The Kings have the assets to make the trade. Byfield, Clarke, Greentree, firsts in the next 3 drafts. Nothing is ever worth McDavid, but they've got the pieces to make it worth a look in this bizzaro world.

Agree LA has the assets, but this talk by just about everybody that NOTHING is worth McDavid is nonsense. We don't expect Edmonton to win with him, ok. But he was largely ineffective against Florida this second time facing them. Last year's Conn Smythe is typical NHL marketing. Why? Draisaitl had 33 points in this year's playoff, but he didn't get a Conn Smythe. A better case can be made for Bobrovsky. His contribution was critical in both cup series. Facing that power play 2 years in a row and coming away with 2 cups? How is the goaltender not recognized ? Just proves the league is too focused on position players. Is nearly impossible for a goalie to get a Conn Smythe any more.
What adds up to McDavid? A team. Players who come together to form a team, implement a system on the ice. Puck support, on both offense and defense, balanced scoring and clutch goaltending. I'll take it any day over super stars who cry in the last few minutes about pentality calls.

None of those players care about the Conn Smythe. That's just fan and pundit fodder. The players on Fla got the trophy they wanted, the Stanley Cup. Yeah, there's probably a nice bonus included for the Conn Smythe, but no one cares if they don't win it.

I would call this ridiculous, but a massive overreaction from Edmonton to losing to a ridiculously great team is exactly what I expect to happen.

Keep the popcorn ready..

Tell that to Sam Bennett's agent...

Elite players typically have their best years in the age 25 to 28 window (peak performance). McDavid is a great player with multiple good years left in his career. Entirely possible that LA/Edmonton do a swap and LA still loses to Edmonton in the first round.

Despite the LA hope, multiple teams (eg., Anaheim, Dallas, Chicago and San Jose) have great depth and could push the bidding to extremes. But I think there is one team capable of putting together a package that would outshine everyone else...Montreal.

Sam Bennett is an effective proxy for the entire Panther roster. They play a playoff hardened defensive style that gives them modest regular season results. They finished 1 point ahead of the Sens.

Other teams are beginning to adopt the Florida roster pattern. Great goaltending, big physical Dmen who can control the area in front of the net and forwards who play responsible, physical hockey. Sam Bennett will get lots of calls. So, for example, if you are Dallas how attractive does Bennett look compared to a resign of Duchenes? Crazy for people to think that Bennet will not get lots of interest from highly attractive teams.

Thats all well and good that other teams could get in to the fray but let’s not forget Connor decides where he goes in this scenario. If he wants to go to LA only then the price tag can’t be as high as Edmonton would hope.

Either way what a 1st round flip that would be!!
