A team can take a route that would help a cap strapped team.

They can sign Kane to league minimum and give him performance bonuses that go to next years cap when it goes up.

He will sign an incentive laden contract with the rangers that’s where he wanted to be.

My belief is that he is willing to sign a league minimum show-me contract for this year with the team that will give him the best chance to win a Stanley cup.
This could earn him a 3 year 3-4M deal.

He is also going to sign with the Sabres last weekend

First, Kane can sign a league minimum contract with easily attainable bonuses. Those bonuses apply to next year's cap. So he can essentially go anywhere this year. Filtering based on which teams have cap space is misinformed.

Second, I thought Kane already knows where he will be signing. And Patrick told this to a friend in California. And then that friend told Ek. See below.

He's not going to play for the league minimum. He wants a guaranteed contract. If that was the case all GMs would be signing stars for league minimum with incentives clauses. That doesn't go with the player union.
