Only if the leafs move someone like Nylander so they can afford him.
As it stands to get a full roster they need to sign 8 guys to get up to 23 and only have about $14 million
Minimum of 5 forwards since they only have 7 signed but that offers no extra guys with a D using Gio, Liljegren, and Timmins so it’s a safe bet Schenn or someone like him gets signed on as well.
So $14 million for a minimum of 6 guys and that means no extra forwards either.
I sincerely don’t believe the leafs can swing a deal for ROR especially with Nylander and Matthews both due for notable raises the following year.
To get him they need to move one of the core four.

That would be great for the Buds. Add in Sanheim and the Leafs start with Marner + |

ROR hopes everything works out and a deal gets done.

He’s not going to sign for cheap though.
He’d love to be here but without some more cap space getting opened up the leafs will simply get outbid. Colorado doesn’t have Landeskog next year either so they’ll be looking to spend. |

14.75M with 7F, 6D and 2G.
Of the forwards they need a 2C, 3C and 3 bottom line types. On the blueline they could use a meaningful addition.
They have about $12M to spend a pair of centres (assuming JT moves to LW) and to improve the D.
That $12M goes up if they buy out or trade Murray and re-sign Sammy. Which I think they'll do.
A 3C at $3M? ......RoR at $6M? .......so $3-$4 milly to upgrade the blueline.

Here's the AAV's for reference ...
11 11.6. 10.9 ....JT, AM, MM
.9. 6.0 6.9 ....MK, RoR, WN
2.1. 3.0. 1.3 ....CJ, XX, Atari
.9. 1.0. 1.1 ....XX, XX, Laff
7.5. 1.1
5.0 2.0
.8. 1.4
3.0 .76
670k buyout for Murray.
That totals about $78M ....leaving them with 5.5 (or more) to spend on improving the blueline. That's with RoR at 6M and another 3C at $3M.
Cap space is good this summer.

Exactly, and you can’t run with more than a couple league minimum guys.
Also, to think they’ll run with no extra forwards is crazy too. Last year was a hiccup to start the year and it got changed as soon as possible.
So the reality is 7 forwards and a d man, averaging around 1.75$ mill each (average). There just won’t be enough to get ROR without moving one of the core guys.
Loading the bottom up with a bunch of league minimum guys and rookies is a mistake, even if it gets the cap space to land the second most valuable UFA this year. |

Forget the Murray buyout that’s not happening. He’d cost $670 next year but $2 million the following one. The same year Matthews and Nylander get raises.

Not to mention the tax rate in Colorado is 41.4% while 53.53% in Toronto.
So the take home on a $6 mill contract is $3,516,000 where in Toronto it’s $2,788,200 |

Mike Augello: Hart On Leafs Goaltending Radar??? - mikeinbuffalo
FIRSTIES!!!
from last blog:
Holl is a decent defensive d man, Keefe leans on him a touch too much but he’s a 4th or 5th guy in the modern NHL (teams being able to afford a true top 4 under the cap nowadays doesn’t happen much). Expecting him to be the guy who can cover his partner’s ass is unfair… that’s the role of a $5+ million dollar guy, not $2-3 million.
He’s just going to be asking for too much to be kept.
this was from the wizard of dozz👊🏿
hole is a decent defense person for our loafs🤦♂️
treedying doesn’t need to lose a wink of sleep over hole🤦♂️
treedying needs to get some more big, physical dmen who will compliment the human eraser and molly bonk ka(frank) if he tries to hang out in the crease👊🏿
defense wins championships so if it means dealing one or both of greedy female dog or willi to get a legitimate top 2 then that’s what treedying needs to do👊
unless we’re back on the shammyplan long march/year zero 🤦🏿♂️
keep soup sammy n the Missouri wall😍
what a (frank)ing joke🤦🏿♂️
edit: nice alliteration👍 |
