Interesting that Michkov is expected to attend the NHL draft. |

Miroshnichenko, Yurov and Duda attended last year.
Think people have this idea in their heads that Russia suddenly has North Korean-esque travel restrictions. It's actually easy to get out (as long as you aren't draft dodging) -- just can't fly to the West directly anymore. |

Their definition of draft dodging can change in an instant. |

True dat! It is Russia, as we have learned from the Fedotov situation.
Perhaps the definition of defecting will be defined, as well. If I was a Russian player, I'd show up at the embassy for asylum claims before or after the draft. We shall see. |

Last year Yurov was ranked in the top 10. Guerin went for Ohgren at #21 and still got Yurov at #24. Wouldn’t be surprised if some teams in the top third of the draft are secretly hoping the Russian bogeyman narrative gets stoked the next few weeks.

I mean if Michkov gets drafted in the next couple of weeks, sure.
But otherwise he's free to come and go, same as any other Russian citizen.

Fedotov allegedly tried to bribe/buy his way out of mandatory service -- kind of a unique situation. |

"Allegedly" is the operative word. He probably said something against the Putin regime that caught their ire. |

We have to keep in mind that Fedotov actually played for the Red Army sponsored team. He had an obligation from what I read.

Bill,
With Babcock coming into Columbus, do you see them trying to be a playoff team quickly? I know there seems to be this idea of Hayes reuniting with Gaudreau there, would that seem more likely with Babcock taking over?

I also read that playing for the Red Army team qualified as military service. Who the heck knows? It's Russia.

I thought the KHL team turned him in for trying to leave. If he tried to bribe someone I am sure he would have gotten more than military service. Need to make an example out of him.

Who knows what the real truth is? Besides, he's turning 27 this year. Looks like he may be running out of time for the NHL by the time his contract with CSKA is over. |

I believe Provorov will end up in Columbus and Cal Petersen in Philly. Not sure of all pieces.

This could also lead to a Gavrikov extension with the Kings |

Per the Fourth Period:
Provorov to CBJ
Walker, Petersen to Philly
Kings retain 30% of Provorov's deal
Edit: also more pieces to come per Pagnotta |
