That would be just like the Leafs to trade the best performing forward in playoffs for a second rate D man. And whom is making this trade……cause Dubas should be down the road!!

Actually I think Dumba is a ufa…….
It’s Marner that should be going! He plays scared in playoffs and at 11mil you need to be a difference maker……in the playoffs!!!
Nylander is $7M per year guy and a very solid player. These days $7M for a young 80+pt player is a good value.
Clearly there are other TOR players that make more sense to move for cap reasons without harming the team as replacing Nylander's skill won't happen.
TOR doesn't want picks for him and so you'll have to take on salary of at least one player.
It makes no sense for any team to trade a top young F or D, at or around the skill of Nylander, on entry level for Nylander (e.g. Seider-like player/contract).
Skill wise as well, he was TOR best player and top 3-4 on the season, so it makes no sense there either.
Moreover, are there any teams who have a Nylander-like D man who need more scoring and can spare to trade a top D for (and take Nylander's cap hit)? Nope.
So, the only real solution here is to find a coach who will play a system better suited to the players' talents and GM and scouts need to look more closely at acquiring/drafting players that fit that system. e.g. a coach who will put Sandin in a situation as WSH played him with Carlson out.
If you're looking to make a deal though, I would try to trade Morgan Reilly and get rid of that 7.5M albatross for the next billion years...there are better D at that price point, and lower...heck Barrie on NSH at $5mil would replace him well and save $2.5M per year.

It makes sense if they are getting back an equally valuable player. In their case making a lateral move to upgrade the defense.

Agree with you there. I can't think of any team that would be an ideal trade partner. Doesn't Toronto need a top line RD still? Maybe for Karlsson, but damn is that risky. Trading Nylander and signing Dumba to a relatively similar cap hit would be a roster downgrade IMO.

The only big concern is how much will Nylander want on the next contract - he has one more season left, and my guess is $8-9M. Personally, I say trade out Morgan Reilly, bring in a guy like Barrie from NSH to run the PP...I could see NSH making a Reilly for Barrie+ deal...others PP QBs of interest could be Vince Dunn, Josh Morrissey (if rumors of WPG blow-up are true), Devon Toews, Sam Girard, Aaron Ekblad, etc
I'm fairly certain nobody has any need for Matt Murray. - greenyone
Any teams looking to get to the cap floor? ARZ usually is open to taking a player on like that for a mid round pick...say Murray and a 2nd or 3rd for a 5th round?
Bratt is not worth the 10 mil his agent thinks he is. A regular season darling but an undersized playoff bystander. Yes he made a great play for the OT winner but can you remember him after that?
Trade bratt at draft recoup your first rounder lost for timo and resign timo.
Nj needs to get bigger/faster just like carolina showed them.

Name the teams faster than NJD. Size and speed are often inversely correlated. Every team wants to get more size and speed. It's a rare combo in players.

Carolina clearly. And no its not overstated. Dummy
Tatar another one should be let go. Find someone bigger with same production not that difficult.

Carolina isn't faster than Jersey. Mobility wasn't the deciding factor in the series. Carolina is a superior defensive team and denied Jersey possession into the zone and sustained zone time. In both cases largely because their dmen disrupt puck possession. Devils didn't face that level of team defense against the Rangers. Quite the opposite in fact.
@eklund get rid of Sam Woo’s female dog ass and get the Devils a regular writer. Why tf would I pay a dime as a Devs fan for Woo’s poop job covering the team? 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
