ESPN/Disney have no one but themselves to blame for their losses. Turning into Diet CNN, carrying water for the woke agenda, and constantly lecturing and patronizing their paying audience didn’t turn out to be a wise business move. Shocking.

Disney needs to sell ESPN so it can get back to sports. Disney using it as a platform to promote woke ideology instead of innovative sports coverage has killed the brand.

And it will only get worse for them, cause millions will now cut the DirectTV cord.
I cancelled Dish Network 2 years ago and don't regret it for a second.

I mentioned on the last thread that both Disney and ESPN decided to take sides on issues people are very passionate about. Any company would be wise to just stay out of it, but they didn't. There are so many examples of companies losing business for entering the political arena (Kellog, Grub Hub, Richard's Sporting Goods, etc HB changed the name of that sporting goods store after I posted it ) and very few that did better (Chick-fil-a and maybe Nike) so you'd think they'd avoid choosing sides like the plague. After Disney started tanking and they brought Iger back, I would have thought he'd put an end to the advocacy, but he doubled down on it.

One thing that hasn't been in the news much, is many of Disney's primary trademarks, including Mickey expire in 2024 and they'll need a GOP led congress to renew them. They were supposed to expire years ago but Congress keeps extending them. I don't know what the economic impact would be if they lose the copyright to Mickey, but it can't be good.

Disney can take their woke crap & shove it. I know many that will not watch or let their kids watch another Disney production. Its a shame. Their own fault.

They already lost it. It's called Reddy Creek and essentially it was Disney's own private county. They had their own fire, security, water treatment plant, etc., and it was entirely self-managed. They could sell bonds just like counties and cities do. FL ended that and they are in the process of putting together a new board to manage it. Now Disney has to get permits for building, food, and everything else every other business has to get, just like Universal.

That might be, but there is something else Florida legislature is considering now,
from what I had seen.

Already done. No more free ride in Florida.

Not sure who is aware, but Disney in Florida has the same land size as the City of San Francisco.

It will be nice to have the left company finally pay its "fair share" to local agencies for roads and other utilities.

I think this is the “swampland” issue. Disney owns thousands of acres of an undeveloped (was never going to be developed) bit of swampland. There are not many residents (possibly around a dozen units). This is the theme park version of what record companies do. They have a major act (fill in the blank) that makes tons of money. So they will sign smaller acts that are going to be “write offs” to minimize costs. (Met with a manager from one of the Christian Bands in the early 2002). The other thing you’ll see are “independent” labels and film companies that spend millions and never recover a dime. It’s kind of a laundromat scenario. The worry on the swampland was that the residents of that county would have to incur the debt that was moved from one section to another (creative bookkeeping). It’s a shame. Most of us just want a couple hours away from the insanity of life and sports/vacations were how a lot of us did it.

I did a couple radio interviews around 2016 for a British show called “Celtica Radio”. Apparently a very large corporation bought a ton of land in Ireland near this guy and did the “self governing” bit so they didn’t have to pay taxes. Also why people buy Islands at times

In any case, their "free ride" is over, and they deserve everything that is happening to them.
I hear they jacked up the prices so high up, they priced regular Americans out.

Woke, unwoke, it doesn't matter. That is all just divisive BS served up to distract everyone from the real problem : greed.

Everything boils down to money. Those big companies and their boardrooms don't give a poop about woke or what their own consumers think. They only care about the bottom line. That is why you are paying north of $6 for a dozen eggs. Joe Maga Guy and Blue-Hair Vegan Girl are getting bent over just the same, but each blames the other and not the corporate shark clapping those cheeks.
