Hopefully as well as this team plays equals a bunch of high draft picks next year. I can't see KD not getting whatever he can at the trade deadline |

Same here, the way I see it after the great start they are playing with the houses money at this point. If it falls off from here we always have October.

I still think if Kane and Toews are on this team after the trade deadline it will be looked at as a KD fail. I want them to only play for the Hawks but realistically to get to where KD wants to get we need to move them for assets and who knows maybe attempt to bring them back in the summer.

They already have the three #1s from last years draft class, a couple of pieces in Rockford, and 12 pics in the 1st 3 rounds over the next two years.
Play too many young guys at the same time, you have the failure years in EDM, and that was with the best player on the planet.
The Hawks will need leaders and mentors for the young guys that make it. Can’t think of a much better pair to do it than 19 & 88. They can always pull out their rings & gold medal to give the kids motivation.

How can it be a KD fail if Toews and/or Kane don’t waive their NMC.
I imagine KD will have preliminary discussions with Pat Brisson and Toews and Kane to see what their vision is for their future and what their next contract expectations might be in dollars and years.
If they choose to move on I wish them well. If they choose to re-up on reasonable contracts I would be ok with that too.
Ideally they play great this season, are traded for high picks and then resign with the Hawks on decent contracts. But that almost never happens. Thinking it might happen is fantasy and not reality. |

I'd rather he fill the roster with vets on 1 year deals than keep 19 and 88 who can give you more quality draft picks. I see KD doing the same thing Poles is doing for the Bears, draft capital.
Although keeping Kane around and signing guys like Domi and AA to 1 year contracts and flipping them for draft picks would work as well for the next few years. |

Agreed with Ztra- it can't really be viewed as a KD fail - in that they do both have full NTC's - I mean sure you can ask and all of that, but at the end of the day all of the cards are in the players' hands (and they'd more than earned that -compared to a few others that had the same sort of thing). I doubt that's even debatable.
I don't mind Max at all - I'm with you on that. I think his value to any team is going to be entirely representative of how they are able to assist in recognising and managing his Type 1 diabetes. So far ... doesn't appear to be an issue -so the Hawks must be doing it right (and probably differently than some other teams' support -physiology/dietician/diabetes educator. Nice to see it -if that's been the case. Probably being one of those things where it might be way easy to take for granted. |

Put me down in the, trade them both, get what they can, and resign them to be mentors in the summer, column. They won't even need to move. Just make sure the re-ups are not too long.
Like what Poles is doing, so far like KD. You can't do a tear down and rebuild half ass'd. |

Very very rare that a pending free agent that is traded mid season signs with his former team after the season. Very. |

Although you "cannot" sign and trade in the NHL, for most big ticket players (Stone, Tkaczuk) that basically is what happens. Giroux did not, but Philly ended up with an underwhelming return because Giroux took all other bidders especially Colorado) out of the equation. IMO Giroux knew his next contract was going to be with Ottawa (his "hometown"), also wasn't going to sign long term with the Panthers because Florida couldn't afford him the next year, and obviously had no interest in going back to the Flyers.
The only time the player goes back as a FA is to sign a one day contract in order to say he retired as a Blackhawk for instance (i.e.Hossa). |

Well, just a change in system, and a new coach makes them that much better. but there not a top ten team , maybe a top 20. Also when you trade everything for Draft picks there are only a few sure things. And you only get them with first 3 picks. JUst look at hawks last 5 years of drafting , None are with us now |

But the more chances you have in the draft a team increases its odds. Top 3 isn't even guaranteed but true you can sometimes get elite talent with a top 3 pick.
Hopefully the new brain trust is better at drafting players |

Antoine Vermette did it in 2015 after winning the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks that summer. |

It's November now. Too soon to start thinking about Luke Richardson as a Jack Adams possibility?
Imagine if he coaches this ragtag bunch of misfits to a playoff berth. |

A Hawks win tonight and a Dallas loss puts the Hawks 1st in the division.
