I expect Carpenter to be more of a plug and play guy. I can see him and Hunt splitting time.

Assuming Kakko comes in at $2.25 mil, Kravtsov stays, and either Jones or Robertson wins the remaining LD job, once the Rangers activate Blais from IR they can carry one extra F and one extra D (Hajek?). If Reaves is on the roster they will only have about $700,000 in cap room, which isn't enough to operate comfortably throughout the entire season.

Which means Kakko wont come in at 2.25m and will probably be under 2m.

I wonder what was going on behind the scenes with strome and a new contract. Offered the same amount of money but chose the ducks. Can’t be for tax purpose CA has some of the highest taxes. Maybe he thought he could squeeze the Rangers for more dollars. Good luck Ryan.

I dont think the Rangers talked contract with him once the season was over. I think that was mid-season chatter.

But it also looks like Gautier (warranted and expected) and Hunt (warranted, but unexpected) won't be on the roster if Cullye makes it out of camp.

Cuylle would really have to impress because GG really likes Hunt as we saw last year.

Hunt was scratched in the playoffs tho. He played more out of necessity last year, with Blais hurt and Kravtsov being a puss.

He shouldn’t even sniff the top 9 next year

He did impress last camp. If he makes the team, his toughness gives them a good reason to move Reaves to another team, assuming there's a taker.

Except we dont have the depth of Copp, Vatrano, Motte, etc… to be able to scratch Hunt.

Hunt being used strictly as a 4th line player is fine. It’s all about the correct roles and ice time. Goodrow sniffing the top 6 along with hunt or blais is a disaster

Hunt, Goodrow, Blais would be a very nice and serviceable 4th line

For sure. I’m even fine with Blais on the 3rd and having carpenter slot in here.

Gauthier is worthless and should be moved. Does not fit anywhere.
Hunt is borderline serviceable.

The Rangers are going to need more bottom six depth this season if some of the young guys don't earn spots.

Hunts metrics as a 4th liner aren’t bad. As you mentioned young players will have to take those roles bc they don’t have any cap space to work with for additional depth

Metrics are worthwhile to a point.
From watching him play, there were better options that made an impact in games. Reaves being one of them IMO.
I guess my point is that the 4th line needs to be better than allowing Hunt to break the lineup.

Hunt and McKegg played much better with Reaves, he seemed to light a fire under them. They forechecked well during their limited ice-time but had no finish for the chances they created. All the hard work in the world won't overcome a lack of talent.

To be fair, love Reaves but he was worthless in many games on the ice. Off the ice he was great. He should only get 25-30 games next season

He did his job and did it well.
He did wear out in the end and couldn't really keep up in the playoffs for sure.
