Theo Fox: Hash Tag Thoughts on the pending announcement of Kyle Davidson as the next Blackhawks general manager.

Plus, a sneak peek at which prospects the Hawks could look to sign to ELCs now that the signing period commences today.

I guess the selection of Davidson is a little underwhelming but, let's see how he does and where things go. I'd guess he gets something like a 3 year contract to start.

3 weeks to the TDL. Maybe he's had discussions with other teams and he can now launch the rocket(s).

Thanks Theo. I have nothing but respect for someone that works his/her butt off and climbs the ranks. He’s young but has been around, he’s handled some contract negotiations in the past as well. I for one am okay with this move, let’s see which way Rocky points the way, my guess is that it will be some kind of retool with young assets added as well. As long as Rocky owns the team, they will never tear it all down, not happening.

we added Jones, mccabe and Maf and we are worse then last year. you are open and trying to trade anybody older then Jones (he is not realy tradeable) and anybody you do not want to give a new contract to. there is so much wrong with this team. its not just the players its teh coaches and scheme as well. there is no way we should be this bad. (columbus is 10 pts better then us. even games we win we are generally give up more high danger chances. I would trade Murphy as well if you can.

Totally agree on KD. Rocky's orders will rule the day, as you say.

Is there a candidate out there they could have hired where Rocky’s orders wouldn’t rule?

Are there any actions KD could take to prove he has autonomy (to the extent any GM has true autonomy)?

Not sure I agree with the decision, but I am glad they made it now. Davidson should now have free reign to start reshaping the team as he sees fit, which is a necessity with the trade deadline approaching.

Oh!
I thought he was talking about YOU, Theo.

I wanna go back to my post about every NHL team needing four vet defenders in a rebuild not necessarily three youngsters (that are NOT Mo Selider).

My point on Murphy is IF you trade him, they have to go and sign a veteran NHL UFA after they traded him.

Or trade for one.

No. That's been a running theme of mine here for months. Any GM, including the hideous Stan, can only work within the framework Rocky allows.

I just read this at the Athletic

“I think just a defenseman that does everything out there, that’s a huge part of a team and kind of like the engine of a team — be playing the penalty kill, power play, final five, all the positions.”

...that is why they pursued Jones....they no longer had one of this....and they don't come along unless you draft & develop one, and even then it is a special player who can fill this description.

As is the case with all other GM's as well. Are you saying this is a negative or a positive?

Well at the end of the day it is his checkbook isn't it? And he is a private company so he only has to answer to his family members doesn't he?

Thank you, Theo.
Big advantage should the Davidson reports prove true: He is already as familiar with ownership and management as one could be.
If GOAT US player wishes to play his entire career as a Blackhawk, I hope that happens. If he wants to go to another team, I support that also.
I trust management will honor all commitments it has made.
That still leaves one heckuva lot of moves that need to be made.

I think Wiz is right about needing 4 NHL d-men in place to successfully bring up young ones. Once one of those young ones is ready, then you move to replace one of the pre existing 4.

Doesn't it depend on the D-men? If we have Gus, Oesterle, McCabe, and Leddy doesn't that help or hurt? Has Galvas done anything to show he's not ready? He's been nothing but steady thus far.

Sometimes four "NHL" D-men is a luxury.

Has Galvas played anything but sheltered minutes. C. Jones looks good when his minutes are sheltered, put him against stiffer competition, and we get a game like he had against St. Louis

In the end the dollar trumps all so hiring Davidson was the easy, safe choice all along and when I read he was a favorite of Danny Wirtz I would have been surprised if it would have been anyone else. I am also offering a lot of caution for those of us who who want a TEAR down, and rightfully so, that we are likely as fans going to get a half @ss fly the by night retool as this team desperately tries to stay relevant and retain as many season ticket holders as they can while also bringing in casual fans on a game by game basis with more gimmicks, and bs to sell tickets. I get it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it and just stinks of desperation.

I personally, like a few others, hoped they (wirtz family) would actually do this RIGHT and hire somebody from outside the organization. Somebody with a fresh set of eyes on to what they have, who they should build around, etc....instead we have a GM who has been here since 2010 and while we can all debate he may have NOT have liked this pick, this signing or that trade....he also has been around these players a long time and to think he doesn't have biased is just not the case. It can work both ways...maybe he was the one pushing Stan to draft Dach 3rd overall?

I just hope the lap dog media, IF given a chance, grills Wirtz, Faulkner and Davidson as to what the plan actually is to get back on top. What made Davidson THE pick over candidates from winning organizations? As a fan, before investing my time and money into something I feel I should be given a vision as to what this organization plans to do because what they have been doing since 2016....is just pure garbage and they have wasted years and millions and the results haven't changed.

When he was first called up he played in all situations, no? He is averaging 18 minutes per night. I haven't been able to watch many of the games, but the one's I have seen him play, he's gone against everyone. He's spent the most time with S. Jones, Stillman and McCabe.

My point was that I think it comes down to more the quality of the player rather than their experience. I will freely admit that more experience typically begets a higher quality player.

Correct but as a fan if you aren't given an outlook or vision why would you invest thousands to watch an outdated, sub standard product? I don't care if they have star wars night every night, or heritage nights, or whatever else.....I would love to see the season ticket renewal after this....only so much patience each person has to give.

So to your point....100% it's the Wirtz's family call on who they hire, who they sign, who they trade, and where they allocate their money....but it's also our call if we choose to accept and support their product either in person and/or listening on the radio/watching on tv.

You take Fleury off this roster next year (almost 95% a given)....what makes you spend your time and money on this product? I love hockey and I can barely watch 2 periods of this crap.......

Why are you and many others so convinced that the owner is meddling on the roster of the team? Is there actual proof and not speculation by a bunch of fans? I'm genuinely curious because I'm not in Illinois so I don't see it.

And if you keep Murphy here this team will have the benefit of higher draft picks as well, win win, i guess, kind of
