As a Sabres fan I am a little saddened by this. This was the one guy out of all the garbage that I would have liked to have back. Buffalo chose to pay Drake caggiula instead of him despite Tobias rieder out playing him all of last year. Probably because Drake is a few years younger. If he does stick with the Ducks I think the fans will be pleasantly surprised as I was for he has lightning quick speed. He is a phenomenal penalty killer and almost guaranteed a few short-handed goals in a year. He isn't going to shock the world but he is an excellent bottom-six player. Maybe I over valuate him a bit it was a very dark season here in Buffalo but I saw a guy that we had signed to a 700k contract who scored five goals when I was expecting none, and five goals on the Sabres was more than Taylor Hall and Jack eichel combined for buffalo. What's a duck's don't keep him he will definitely get on some team that is looking for a strong penalty killer |

Perhaps I was a little harsh … I hope you’re correct … speed we need & PK’ers always helpful… if he can bury some apples from Rico or Steel cool. |

He's useful on the PK and won't kill you defensively. 750k for a 13th forward isn't the worst thing in the world. |

Ben Shelley: Ducks sign Tobias Rieder to PTO - Ben-Shelley
Look. When you have young teams this is not a bad thing. This is meant to give Reider a chance at an NHL job, not necessarily with the Ducks. He is meant to drive up the competition for roster spots and keep the young guys honest, as well as a depth option in case of injuries. It also gives a comparison. The coaches will target and push him. Kids will see it. They'll think man, I have to do better. If they don't, to the minors. |

Great speed, great penalty killer. No downside to this PTO. If he doesn't work out - see ya later. I am willing to bet that he will earn a spot on the Ducks, he is a hard worker also. He is also capable of playing up in the lineup when situations dictate it, mostly because of his speed.
Let him earn a spot - pay league minimum - hard to lose if that happens.

If he earns a spot, I am fine with that. He has always been a good on the PK. If he has a good season, the Ducks may be able to trade him for a pick. This would be a Win/Win for the Ducks. |
