I think we will be selecting 2 and 5 on draft day and get Byfield and Drysdale. I can see Rossi going at 4...
Then I’d love Ottawa to trade for Nylander or Marner. Package L Brown with the Isles pick + a couple 2nds...
It would make for a very dynamic offence. |

I think the decision as to whether or not a team should look to move up in the draft lies with an honest evaluation of your own scouting staff. If you truly have faith in them and the results to match, you move up if there’s a player they say you should move up for. If their results have been mixed at best, it’s probably better to stay put and hold onto the extra picks. |

Brannstrom would probably have to be included in any deal for Marner or Nylander

I could see the Isles pick and Brannstom for Nylander...you may have to include another late round pick. Toronto needs to shed salary and get quality defencemen. |

The new draft format puts a curve ball on these conversations. Ottawa could wend up with a mid round pick to begin with.
I'm still open to trading one of their seconds(ideally not the 32) to move up though depending on the price. |

Too early to make a call. Largely depends on who the Sens pick with their first two picks.
We moved up to get Karlsson, which was worth it but we also moved up to get Brown, which may have not been worth it. End of the day.
You could stay where you are with a mid to late first rounder and pick a Patrick Eaves but miss out on a Corey Perry who was taken just before.
End of the day, you have to have faith with the scouts. I think the picks after the high two first rounders are really just insulation for our prospect system. Odds are less likely to get a franchise player outside the top picks. Would be great if it happens, of course.
Super important to nail the two top picks the Sens will have. |

I think it depends on where you’re moving up to. If it’s in the top 10 from the isles pick it might be worth it.
In a hypothetical scenario I concocted Detroit, one of the California teams, and a team behind jersey (so I’ll use buffalo) win the lotteries leaving the sens at 4/5. In this scenario I could see it making a lot of sense to move 5th, the isles pick, and a second to get 7 and 10 since jersey will likely be targeting one of the Swedish wingers or drysdale that may not be available at 7.
To put it like this:
Det: lafreniere
Buf: byfield
LA: stutzle
Ott: Rossi
NJ: drysdale
ANA: Holtz
OTT: Raymond
MTL: Perfetti
CHI: askarov
OTT: Quinn |

Also just out of curiosity amongst sens fans, what side do you guys see Erik branstrom playing in the future?
He has gone on the record saying he prefers the right side to the left, and had a very good stint on that side with sens in December. But it seems the organization wants to try and develop him on the left side, which isn’t hard to see why given JBD and Thomson are both righty’s |

I may have misread his interview with Garrioch but it seemed like Dorion was saying that the Sens are not interested in UFA'a or trades with other teams where they would take back a high end roster player. Their intention is play out their hand through the draft over the next few seasons. I assume they would still be open to moving up to draft another elite or high quality player.
My draft dream team is some combination that includes
One of Lafreniere, Byfield or Stutzle.
One of Rossi or Perfetti.
One of Dawson Mercer or Connor Zary.
One of Lapierre or Jarvis.
I think the Sens have the firepower to make this happen at a very modest cost from their pool of picks and prospects.

What's the worst case scenario for Ottawa?
Colubus wins a top 3 pick, Ottawa doesn't get any of the top 3. Ottawa only has 2 selections in 2020 (but 2 1st rounders in 2021)
5th pick) OTT
6th pick) OTT
Who will go in the top 4? A.L, Byfield, Stutzle. But who goes #4?
My picks from 4-7 go as follows: (4) Raymond (5) Holtz (6) Drysdale (7) undecided, Rossi Perfertti come to mind. So too does Jake Sanderon, but how does that work with Brannstrom?
What are your picks 4-7? |

4 Raymond
5 Rossi
6 Drysdale Perfetti
Rossi is such a wildcard, I don't know where to put him. |

True on Rossi. If it wasn’t for his height he would probably be in the stutzle/byfield conversation but as of now he could go as low as 8, which I think says more about just how good the top end of this draft is |

Ya .... agree on rossi big time. He could end up bring the 2nd or 3rd best player in the draft, or a guy that can't be as impactful at the next level because of his size (again that's only in comparison to others around him) |

If Rossi were 3" taller, he would be in the mix (for discussion purposes) as a possible #1 overall. I understand the importance of size. It is the forever statistic that hockey queens won't let us forget. But, Rossi has weighed in as high as 193 lbs in some scouting reports. He is a tenacious bull, he plays physical, hard to move off the puck and some say he is too dirty. Ottawa will not have less than two picks from the top 6. The Sens cannot let Rossi slide by if he is still on the board at #4 and beyond.
Interesting that OHL coaches named Rossi as the top prospect. And, the good news is that no scouting staff knows him better or follows him more closely than Ottawa. If Ottawa goes any combination of 2 picks from the 1, 2 and 3 lottery chances, they will take two from a short list of Lafreniere, Byfield and Stutzle. But the highest statistical probability suggests that the Sens most probable picks will be 3 and 4. So if Sens do not get 2 dances at the top 3 picks:
My #1 Sens ideal draft (top 4) includes Lafreniere, Rossi, Zary and Lapierre.
My #2 Sens ideal draft (top 4) includes Byfield, Rossi, Zary and Lapierre.
My #3 Sens ideal draft (top) includes Stutzle, Rossi, Zary and Lapierre.
My #4 Sens ideal draft (top 4) includes Rossi, Perfetti, Zary and Lapierre.
As you can see, I may have an irrational bias towards the Sens taking Rossi.

That's a decent start. Probably add in Brannstrom and you may be close to a real offer. |

I hear what your saying. To be honest, I'm split on Rossi too. I think if he's there at 8 it's a steal.
Here's what the Sens are seeing:
2015 - Colin White
2016 - Logan Brown
2017 - Josh Norris
2019 - Shane Pinto
2020 - ???????????
If they get Byfield, does anyone think we'll draft another top 2 center? |

I think the wingers in the 5-8 range have a lower ceiling but higher floor than Rossi. If they get byfield they take a winger and perhaps if they develop stutzle as a center they may pick a winger too. They say pick BPA over position but the 5-8 projected guys are pretty well equal value so they can afford to select that way.
Part of me has a hunch though that if their second pick winds up 5th or 6th they reach or trade down for local boy jack Quinn.

I am really excited about Norris and Pinto for #2 and #3 center. Pinto is big, skates well, is very strong defensively, very strong on the board and lives in front of the net. Norris seems to have strong #2 center upside.
I believe that Colin White will start showing that he is worth his contract this coming season. As for Logan Brown - has loads of talent but has lots to prove...
If we take Byfield, we need a scoring winger or a an elite defenceman with the other top 6 pick. |

You also seem to have developed a love affair with Zary and Lapierre as well. Which is a good thing. Because (mostly) all those guys you mention should work out. Though at least one will be a bust. |
