Carol Schram: Without Roberto Luongo trade, the Canucks wouldn't have Jacob Markstrom now Roberto Luongo's cap-recapture penalty is one more bit of fallout from the Canucks' single-minded pursuit of the Stanley Cup during the Mike Gillis era. It shouldn't materially impact the team, which had advance warning, and it shouldn't be overlooked that the trade of Luongo brought the Canucks their current MVP, Jacob Markstrom, in return.

I always liked Markstrom, but he seemed like a guy who was never gonna pan out. High fives to him for finding his way.

Hopefully Markstrom can have another great year but realistically he’s put up one good season, much like Talbot did in Edmonton before he came back down to earth, he’s far from a bonafide starter yet.

Carol? Can you ask Aquilini why he operates with the leanest front office in the league? Less people to call him an idiot? Maybe I’ll just ask him at Cactus

The difference with Markstrom is that his big season came with the help of a new goalie coach—who also worked wonders for Luongo himself back in his days in Vancouver, and helped Sergei Bobrovsky win two Vezinas in Columbus.

I'm a big believer in Ian Clark. I don't think Markstrom's season was a one-off.

As an RFA that could potentially get a +/- $4m arbitration award there was zero interest.

As a UFA top 6 Dman who is still relatively young there is bound to be plenty of interest. If the Canucks trade his rights before July 1 it will be for a contract some other team wants to get rid of, that Benning thinks could help in Utica/as a call up...

Clark was on with Sat & John this morning from UBC, good interview if you didn’t catch it.

Aqua likes being the big man in Vancouver, but is an insignificant owner in the league. Boston and Chicago owners would never put up with a cap penalty and would find a way around it. Hossa anyone. Aqua takes whatever the league deals him. But he’s the big man here.

This. But personally I laughed at the idea that he was going to get awarded 4M in arbitration. What was his case? I don’t see much besides ice time.

Ffs sounds like Benning is not that sour on Hutton. I hope he’s just postering to make a deal this weekend.

Best case scenario you’re right, however, I’m not as sold as you, I’ll believe it when I see it.

5 goals, 30ish points? Could probably find several comparable players getting that much. If he gets traded it will be for a “Reid Boucher” type player.

Whatever, walk, trade, sign a low $ deal. I couldn’t care less about Benjamin Fatty McHutton

Who is the head of, or director of pro scouting for the Vancouver Canucks? Home addresses would be handy, too. Thanks.
