a $4M defenseman who was a scratched in the playoffs for a top 9 forward who can play all 3 positions for $925k? thats a win for the pens. the pens would have had 8 D once pettersson is signed and less than $1M in cap space. a salary dump and breaking up the log jam on the back end. now if colorado will only come back to the table to take johnson off the pens hands. |

The trade definetly works for the Penguins. DK is a guy who can play up and down the line up, is a great energy guy that wins board battles. I think you guys will really like him and what he brings. Sad to see him go. Hopefully, Matta can regain some of his old form with the new system he'll be playing in. |

You’ll like Määttä. Good hockey IQ, good positioning and makes the little things well. His only knock is foot speed. Good guy! |

Exactly. For the Pens this is a cap dump with a potential upside of a young impact winger. |

Really hate to see Mattaa go since I was a fan of his, however I understand the trade.
Although now that Oli is gone, we probably have a hole to fill on the blue line. With
Dion Phaneuf now officially bought out, I honestly hope JR isn't thinking what I think he may be doing next if he's planning on finding another D-Man... |

I think this trade could work out for both sides.
PIT gets a young, speedy forward with upside + cap space.
CHI gets a more defensive dman that can plug into their top 6, as well as help out their awful penalty kill.
