Justin Lowe: LIVE THREAD: Hawks v. Sabres
The Hawks are back in action (finally!) tonight versus the Buffalo Sabres. I will be making the 102 km / 63 mile trek over the border to Buffalo tonight.
As I’m always searching for new and creative ways to keep my blogs interesting, I thought I would do a day-along “LIVE THREAD” of the game.

My best hawks game would be getting second row to the glass seats in the late 90s taking my 6/7years daughter there getting to our seats late and a fight right in front of our seats as my daughter watched in horror as everyone else cheered. Later an extremely nice man in a suit gave me daughter a puck at the game and she was hooked. Near he end of the game another fight broke out and she was happily screaming kill him with the rest of the UC. |

Thanks Justin - Will be checking in all day.....
My greatest memory - My first live game. It was against the St. Louis Blues back in the 70's.....t the Chicago Stadium. All I remember was how white the ice looked, and since this was in the day when the road team wore the colors, I was amazed at the blue of the St. Louis uniforms. Those colors never showed u that well on TV.

My favorite hawks games was a Saturday matinee I went to a Chicago, Detroit game back in 1996 with my buddies . Sitting center ice and televised. Chicago was getting smoked 4-0 then all of a sudden Chicago came roaring back and the crowd was so loud and screaming Detroit Sucks , final score Chicago 5 Detroit 4.
It was a amazing game I saw a great game , caught a puck and got hammered |

My Top Game is Game 1 vs Tampa in the Cup. Took my pops to the game. Drove down early. Hit up a little bar down from the stadium for a few beers before hand. Talked with some really nice Lightning fans wearing Drouin Halifax Jerseys.
Good contingent of Hawks fans in the building. Sat in the 2nd to last row in the building but it was awesome. Ive had better seats on multiple occasions, but never a Cup Final! TT ties it in the 3rd. Vermette steals the game. Had a pod of about 7-8 Hawks fans in the last 4 rows of my sections and we went nuts.
It really was something I'll never forget. |

Tyler, been through the basement drama- yes it sucks...
My favorite memory going to the closed circuit broadcasts at the local theater with my uncle in the 60's watching the golden jet. $Bill was ahead of his time with CC as a pay per view... I can't even believe I said that! |

Favorite memory 😬:
Being from Springfield, going to a Blackhawk game means going to St Louis AND getting doused with at least one beer per game.
Except for the last game we went to, in October. Because we were in the very top row!
But Toews made up for it by getting the Hat Trick and winning it in OT. |

My favorite memory would still be the final goal scored by a Blackhawk (Roenick) in the Chicago Stadium. OT winner against the Leafs. I thought the place was going to fall down it was so loud. |

Best game memory:
Probably Game 2 of the 2010 Finals. Close game, energy and tension high. I remember the roof almost blew off after Hossa finally opened the scoring and then Eager came down the next shift and further cemented my loss of hearing after whistling the off wing wrister upstairs.
Always tough to compete with Game 6 against Tampa and seeing the cup raised by your favorite home town team. Or the Kane Hatty against Van in 2009 WCSF.
Awesome blog today! Enjoy Buffalo and hit up the Anchor Bar! |

Favorite games I attended:
-First Hawks game was 1989 (30 years ago!) Dinamo Riga! Those were fun games, playing the Russians!
-Final regular season home game at the Stadium. Wayne Messmer had been shot. I was in obstructed behind the organ, when his wife stood in his place and they played a recorded version of his rendition of the anthem.
-2010 WCF game 4. What a game.... |

If we can get away in time... we're going to try.
I will have the whole family, so if anyone has kids... you know you pretty much have to play everything by ear. ha. |

Great piece, TC. Definitely keeping it interesting around here.
My first game and favorite memory came really late in my life. April 3, 2014. My youngest nephew was with my dad and I. My nephew said he wanted to go to a game, and it can count as his birthday present, which is in June. He knew he couldn't go then. My dad and I surprised him. Put our sweaters in the back of the car and his, and went to the game, which was against Minny. We told my nephew something hawk related, but not a game. The more sweaters he saw outside the car as we drove along, he finally caught on. We're going to a game! He was shaking and kicking his legs.
When we got there, I went as close as I could to the ice on the 1st floor. Right in the middle, staring at the Indian head, feeling the chill coming from the ice, and listening to it slowly get loud. A guy working for the UC asked if he could help me find my seat. I said maybe up a few escalators, you could. It's my first game. He stepped out of the way, and told me to go in just a little bit more. I did. I can still feel that chill.
We were higher up in the seats. Still great, I think. Very loud, great to be in. It was a game that went to a shootout. A lot of players went. I remember seeing Regin. Hossa was the winner. |

Yeah, that was very satisfying. I absolutely hated the Leafs back then. |

I've really only watched the Hawks as a road team up here in the frozen north and I can't really choose a fav memory. Maybe I'll eventually see them play a game at the UC sometime when I visit out east. |

As a kid, I was fortunate that my parents had 2 Blackhawk season tickets in the 60s & 70s, 12 rows off the glass on the blue line that the Hawks attacked twice. I was able to go to a couple of games a season.
Just out of HS in 1979, I was able to see Gretzky play his 1st NHL game, at the Stadium, just after the WHA/NHL merger, on 10.10.79
As an adult, I saw Game 1 of the 2010 Final v. Philadelphia with my oldest son. |

My favorite memory that comes to mind had nothing to do with the actual game - I don't remember who they played or if they won or much of anything about the game. It must have been the early 90's because Mike Peluso was on the team and I looked up what years he played for the Hawks (90-92). I remember Mike Peluso was on the team because he was not playing that particular game - he was "in the press box" only he wasn't actually in the press box - he was sitting in the stands a few rows up from me and people were coming by to get his autograph before the game started.
My fond memory was that game was the first game I took my daughter to. On the drive down to the Stadium, I impressed upon her to always keep her eye on the puck when the play was going on because deflected pucks often flew into the stands and you don't want to get hit with the puck. So we got there really early, took our seats and a few minutes later the Hawks came out for their skate around ... and what did they do? They threw out dozens of pucks on the ice and my daughter tensed up and grabbed my arm and said, "dad, I can't watch all of those pucks at the same time". I guess it was a had to be there moment but a fond memory that she and I share. |

Funny you should mention this game, at least I think we are talking about the same game, because it involved my favorite memory too. Except that we are either thinking of different games, or your memory has gotten a bit fuzzy in the 23 years that have passed. Because the game I went to, the Hawks trailed 4-0, rallied back to take a 5-4 3rd period lead, only to blow it late and have the game end in a 5-5 tie.

Beginning at the 17 minute mark of the video, Amonte scores a pretty goal and then then high fives me and my friends through the corner glass. First and probably only time I will ever sit front row at a Hawks game.
That highlight then became part of the 1996 NHL Playoffs TV commercial.

Runner up would be the pre-game, whole team melee between the Hawks and North Stars in the late 80’s. We were climbing the stairs to our nose bleed standing room “seats” when we heard the crowd start to go nuts. We ran up the rest of the stairs and reached the top just in time to see complete bedlam. Players squared off in pairs, equipment strewn everywhere, and no coaches or refs around to stop it. It was like a cartoon fight where all you see is a cloud of dust with the occasional fist flying out of it. Went on for a good 15 minutes or so. Classic moment.

I thought Lidstrom tied that game with the goalie pulled and it ended in a 5-5 tie. Maybe, I am thinking of another game however. amonte had scored on a breakaway to make it 5-4 Hawks and then Lidstrom tied in the final minute to break Hawks' fans hearts. |

sorry Ogi, you beat me to it. I knew that game ended 5-5 as well. |

some of my favorite moments
1) watching Sulivan and Daze get hat tricks in the same game on free hat night.
2) Getting to see Larmer as a Ranger score on a penalty shot
3)Toews scoring a hat trick on hard hat night
4) getting to watch the cup get hoisted. |

I was at that game, it was around St Patty's day as they gave out really crappy green plastic hats (dollar dollar Bill y'all). Hawks won 8-5 (or 8-6) vs Boston. Great game to go to during the dark times! |
