What could the Leafs possible give up for what would amount to a 1 year rental for them that Columbus would accept
Looks like Jarmo has already alienated another player |

There don't seem to be many options for them on D. If they could get Panarin for a reasonable price then why not? Doubt it happens, but it would be pretty great |

there's no deals to be made for the back end, and Leafs have almost 20 mil in available cap space just for this next year, with use of LTIR for Horton, and only Nylander left to sign to a 1 or 2 year bridge deal.
Basically, its a very tiny window of opportunity with a wad of cash on hand.
Leafs needs on the back end arent for bottom 4 defensemen, and nobody will trade a top 2 guy, so, its pointless to wait for that to happen out of nowhere.

Yeah the leafs don't have the assets to make this happen.
unless they plan on trading a young gun. |

Considering they can't extend him, this stands to reason. Lots of teams that could give up a lot more on the condition that he signs an extension. |

Which also doesn't make sense, because if you're going full offensive overload, you need to keep those guys on your roster.
One thing Toronto has is most of their picks. This route also doesn't make sense for the Jackets unless they suddenly decide to tear it down. |

Only scenario I see playing out is if Panarin accepts a sign and trade, knowing Jarmo, he would ride out the rest of his contract and then sign someone else in 2019 with the available cap space. |

We are clearly going with the theory that if you score a dozen goals a game defence becomes less important. |

Sounds like good news for Columbus. Saying I won't negotiate after camp starts is a pretty big step up from I won't negotiate at all. |

The plan is to bring back '80's hockey.. We're looking to win games by scoring 8-10 goals per game.. Who needs defense? I mean if you plan on winning 12-9, is getting a top pairing d-man that important? |

As much as I hate Toronto, that really would be fun to watch. Go for it Leafs. |

Only if that top pairing defenseman is actually a winger.
*looks over at Ottawa* |

Well, picks and a young roster player like Johnsson, Kapanen, or Brown. Given that they're focusing so heavily on rebuilding their d prospect pool, which will start to pay off after the cap-crunch year, I doubt guys like Dermott, Liljergen, or Sandin are available.
I don't think the forward prospects they have are of much interest to Columbus. |

Philly did get to the stanley cup finals on that mentality , and they had freaken Micheal Leighton in nets |

Unless Jarmo can work something out with the Panthers on a sign and trade I think we're up the creek without a paddle. Panthers have a lot of interesting possibilities. |

Don't trade him now unless the offer is great. Panarin at $6million is a bargain and we get wayyyyyyy more value out of him playing than trading for something right now imho. At the deadline we can see where our season has been heading and make a better decision. |

Maybe the CBJ needs to find him a new girlfriend, or make a private jet available so he can go to whatever big city he wants after practice or on days off.
It's maddening that a city that supports him 100% and a team that he scored more points for last season than any time in Chicago and is willing to pay him among the top ten players in the league (even though his numbers are not top 10 in the league yet) isn't good enough for him. What does he really want?

This whole thing about not wanting to be in Columbus doesn't jive with what he said after being traded from Chicago. Panarin said that he liked the idea of coming to C-bus where it could be "his" team, he being the main man.
In none of his preferred destinations would he be "the man" ! He'd obviously be a huge piece of the puzzle.
In Columbus Panarin is "the man".
I still can't figure out if he would stay in CMH for the right $$ - or he definitely wants out ! |

I can't say I've seen anything that makes me think he'll stay. Liking a place and wanting to stay there for 8 years are different. Hell, I live in Columbus and I don't know if I'd sign a contract to stay here for 8 years. Of course, millions of dollars on the table would help that, but he's going to get paid wherever he goes. |
