Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks seeking defensive depth when re-signing Derrick Pouliot One day after they didn't issue a qualifying offer to defenseman Derrick Pouliot, the Vancouver Canucks brought him back into the fold on a one-year deal worth $1.1 million.

I hope Hughes can step in next year and give a boost to our D-core. Get him games now and he can adjust and be ready to go in 2-3 years time when the Canucks are relevant once again!

The gangs all here.

Thanks Carol . I heard Benning on SN the other morning and he was talking about Utica saying how exciting they would be this year. He said the addition of Lind Gadjovich and Juiloevi should help the lineup. As he just announced OJs name he quickly back tracked saying providing he does not make the team .

He said if young players om Utica are ready they would trade vets for assets at TDL .

Tanev wasn't traded so I suspect we will go with this serviceable Dcore until TDL.

He also mentioned OJ surgery was a minor procedure and he will be fully ready at camp.

We picked up 2 nice Dmen at the draft , we have OJ almost ready , Chatfield Sautner and Brisebois on the farm , so I understand not going after a Dman

We need a center and some grit and then I think we are done for this year.

Bring in Riley Nash (at right price) and Roussel. That should be it for this offseason. Let the kids play.

Even though he probably could play a year at NCAA and come up for the last 10 games would not be bad either.

I figure if Hughes and/or OJ make the team out of camp, that makes both Hutton and MDZ expendable and therefore they'll be traded before game 1.

I would agree. Couldn't hurt one more year at NCAA. Worked well with Boeser.

Because he was drafted as an NCAA player, he can also be sent to Utica this year if he signs. Lots of options!

I think I'd rather see Hughes mature a little more. I think my 14 year old is bigger than him, and he's not a big 14 year old. Now granted if his skill is as good as they say then it won't really matter. I just hate the idea of exposing all the best prospects to all that losing, it can be very hard on young players.

Also, make a conditional trade with Dallas. The Canucks take Spezza off of their hands, to free up cap space, and the price to do that would either be Ty Dellandrea or their first next year and the Canucks give them some player(s) off of Utica not named Demko. The conditional part would be they will need the cap space IF they can sign Tavares.

If he can play, let him play, if he can't then he can go to Utica, simple. The best players should play and if they do, we won't be losing quite as much as people think.

Bah we still have 2 top4 guys and a bunch of whatever else. Definitely need more, or is it Moore

I mean, I guess the reality is were just going to be bad again next year. The d and the goalies were the main issue, they look to be staying the same. Will be much more fun to watch this young team be bad though

Still, I wouldn't hate some free agent signings and kids getting pushed to Utica if need be. Namely, I think Winnik, Nash, Rask, Smith-Pelley and Beagle are all much better bottom 6 options. Simialrly, Green and Moore would be much better to see than Stecher or MDZ, or god forbid EG. I heard some rumour we were one of the teams expected to talk to Carter Hutton, he could be a interesting add.

If Hughes makes the squad and plays effective top4 minutes, that changes things because we do have 3 guys that can play bottom pair.

If not, were not going to win many games until our G/D personnel improves. Tanev and Edler healthy plus Hughes would actually help a lot.

Sorry good lacrosse player but not hockey. My oldest boy loved hockey, but alas was only a house/B player, unlike his uncle that played for the Blackhawks back in their bleak years before Kane & Toews.

5 '10 175 pounds is actually not that disproportionate considering Ellis plays at 5'10 180.

I think that would be best honestly. Start him in the AHL in case he struggles. EP and possibly OJ will have the spotlight on them
