So Brooks had this in his article on Toronto rebuild being airhead of schedule
But talent alone, young or old, is not enough. Again: see Edmonton and Colorado, where elite young talent developed bad habits and perhaps bad attitudes borne by losing. The structure and discipline demanded by — and the culture and environment instilled by — Shanahan, general manager Lou Lamoriello and Mike Babcock behind the bench have been paramount in this ahead-of-schedule revival in Toronto |

Very hard to gather a trio like that, he's an unbelievable coach that gets the most out of his players, very hard to find another..... |

Yeah it is. That it's the biggest problem with this club. No accountability. From the owner down.
Btw, Ur, think you misconstrued what I was saying in the last thread. There is some talent here. I agree that JT is the only 1st liner, Lee, Nelson, Strome, Ladd still have some talent. I never said they were a cup contender, actually to the contrary. The entirety of my point was about a new coach coming in and having something to work with. At least a base of a few decent lines. Does a lot of dead weight need to go? Yes. Does more talent need to get brought in? Definitely. |

He should have said, "Dale Hunter caught up with him." But he didn't, and he blew it.
Too soon. |

Jokes aside, Turgeon is probably one of the more underrated players, in my opinion. Before the concussion and shoulder injury, he was on pace to put up some of the best numbers ever. |

I said since the beginning of the season they would be cup contenders before the isles. I got chirped for calling out the isles horrific roster. The leafs have a trio that are ALL WINNERS. Its no accident that they are already turning the corner, while the isles are in reverse. |

I dunno about the best numbers ever. But, he was the isles best player and who knows where the isles could have gone had he not been blindsided during a celebration. |

And that is exactly the type of coaching/front office this organization should have. Will we get that in the off-season? Highly, highly doubtful. I think Snow, unfortunately, will be here again next season. I hope beyond hope that Crappy isn't. Though somehow I think he does. I think Spartarti said that Crappy would find a new bag of excuses and worm his way back for another year. If both, or even one of those morons are back next season I won't watch another game until they're gone and someone reputable takes over. |

It's meant to show the new owners what a good president can do if he hires a good Gm and coach |

I really hope Wang did not pull a fast one and give Garth a long contract. I do not get what contract he has. Garth and his messy sidekick have to go. |

While I still hold out no hope for this ownership to be much different than the ones dating to the mid-90's, I do still believe that Wang (frank)ed them over and did everything he could to give Snow one more year. Why else would he not hand the team over in May when they were knocked out of the playoffs? My guess? If he doesn't give them control until July 1st, then they can't get their guys in there before free agents are signed, and the draft already taken place. He pretty much handcuffed them to Snow. Could they have canned them? Sure, but essentially the damage would've been already done. I just pray they do the right thing and clean house.
Btw, contracts can be terminated. Just ask Gallant. |

I give L&M a pass for not firing Garth and Cappy in July. The timing was bad to make moves in July. Now L&M have no excuse not to make moves and I have to think a new president before they even take the job will want to know if they have the power to make changes as they see fit. |

As do I. Like I've said here countless times, It is very strange to me that before the season Ledecky was giving the rah rah talk to whoever would listen. Then they started losing and he quit talking. All of a sudden they string together a few games where they got points and he's busting out on twitter. Once they go back to the way they were playing he disappears again. That's what I don't like. If you're going to blow sunshine up our asses, then don't go away when it's not going right. Make some form of state of the team address, or state that you're not pleased with the direction and do something. Honestly, I'd rather he hadn't said anything at all and just make corrective moves when the season is over. |
