At least they are eager to fill that spot in case a prospect (or veteran) doesn't pan out. I remember that year they picked up Corvo thinking that would be the needed fix. I was so disappointed. Nothing worst than chirping your own guys.

Bartowski could surprise, but do not bring a 35 year old pylon!or try one of the kids, maybe sign quincy? But for sure you guys could use some depth.......and I hope you guys make the playoffs! Actually all the Canadian teams, Ottawa and Montreal playoff, Edmonton and calgary, Winnipeg and Vancouver! That would be amazing hockey to watch! But not my leafs (I want more pain!)lol, good luck with your camp and fingers crossed for your season guy's. .

i wouldn't hate adding Seidenberg at like a mil or something. he's absolutely an upgrade over boro, even if he has regressed the last couple of years. he doesn't have the offensive ability of wideman, but I think he's probably better in his own end. he also has a ton of experience playing in the top 4, and while I certainly wouldn't want him there consistently, I would feel more comfortable with him filling in there over boro or wideman.

that being said, I would not want him taking ice time away from Chabot, englund, or claesson (if any of them make the team).

in an ideal world, 2 of the rookies make the team, Seidenberg is brought in as a 5-6-7 dman, and boro and wideman end up in the AHL (as I don't feel either of them are legit NHL dmen).....but that's just my opinion

I think Seidenberg makes sense to be honest. Barring injury, you're not counting on the guy to be a main cog in the machine, he needs to be able to play insulated minutes on a third pair at this point in his career. His numbers don't look all that hot over the past couple of years, but a lot of that has had to do with injuries, and the spot he was playing in. I wouldn't expect Seidenberg to be a difference maker, but I also wouldn't expect him to be a boat anchor like Borowiecki. He's an upgrade in that respect.

All that said, Chabot looked really solid in that rookie tournament. If he's NHL ready now, then I'd say that he's the answer on your 3rd pair this year. I'd still see if Seidenberg would take a 1yr deal at a low salary because injuries will happen, and with a young guy like Chabot, he might need some nights off as well. I'd personally feel much more comfortable with Seidenberg filling that 7 spot than I would with Borowiecki or even Bartkowski. I think that's probably the direction this goes in. I think Seidenberg gives you a nice secure option so the coach wouldn't have to force Chabot into uncomfortable spots for a rookie if injuries start to pile up.

I've gotta think Englund may see a few NHL games this year, but I think he'll be well served by spending a year in the AHL to wrap his head around playing on the smaller ice. Chabot has already passed Claesson, and I think Wideman is a legitimate NHL dman at this point in his career. I figure that Chabot gets the NHL audition unless his main camp performance is awful, and they keep one of Bartkowski/Seidenberg around as the 7th guy. Borowiecki is AHL bound hopefully.

he's on a one-way deal though, and I know that this team hates burying contracts (even small ones)......I mean how long did it take before they finally did it to greening. it also scares me that this team seems to actually like boro as a dman.....they must see something in him that literally nobody else on the planet does.

hopefully with boucher in house, who seems to prefer a higher tempo, puck possession type game, a player like boro ends up being the odd man out.

I'd love to see a 3rd pairing of Seidenberg and Chabot (wideman as the 7th and boro in the AHL).......a solid vet for the kid to learn from, plus he's someone who's likely to stay back at this point in his career (rather than jump up in the rush) which will allow Chabot to play his type of game.

Seidenberg on a 1 year deal would be great.
Anything longer than that would be too much

I wouldn't mind keeping Boro with the club as the 7th just for a little toughness now and then (that dreadful West Coast tour La/Ana/SJ) plus Mtl just got a lot tougher with Weber... I dont know, more options is better than less options and for the record I also like what Wideman brings to the table. Just seems like we have a glut of puck movers now which is the new standard in a copycat league.
