I agree about JVR and bozak still hanging around. The only thing I can think of is that the returns they are being offered are not good enough right now and mgmt. thinks they might do better at the trade deadline. (unless the Leafs are in playoff land then they would keep them)

Where are you seeing they WANT to use Hawk in their name in Vegas? I've read they will most likely go with some form of "Knight" as Bill Foleys financial and sports & entertainment companies are both call "Black Knight"

I think the Leafs need to keep some vets, JVR and Komarov would be keepers IMO

Id shed the other vets and let the rest of the rookies play

JVR - Komarov - Martin - Polak

Send the rest Michalek - Greening Lupul - Laich etc out to the woodshed

Nighthawks, Deserthawks.....

There are 2 Sox in MLB. There used to be 2 RoughRiders in CFL. Whatevs.

I imagine just a little over a year from now Canucks will play their 1st game in Vegas. I'm going to be there. Should be a see of Canucks blue. 2017 should be more promising than 2016 as well. With the possibility of Boeser and OJ making the team.

Is it bad we are calling him OJ?

It's an antiquated notion that team names need to have connotations of strength/anger etc like the Hawks, Devils and predators (a truly terrible name)
The thrashers ??! Seriously?
However, I will say the Avalanche and the Lightning are pretty killer nicks

I love those strange collegiate nicknames that are outside the norm.
And not being an American and having no real geographical bias, I always tend to gravitate towards cheering for them.
The Pepperdine waves?! The uc banana slugs! Maryland Terrapins.
Even the South Carolina Gamecocks is an absolute beauty

The habs tend to hire a disproportionate amouny of both ex players and French people. Even if they're probably less than qualified. It's zero surprise the rumours of Roy are already out there

The problem is the ones you want to toss has no trade value. Michalek,Greening etc are vets to keep until their huge contracts run out.

JVR and Bozak, can get you a very good return. A player on the upswing when were ready to compete rather then those players who will be on the downside of their carreers at that time.

The 2 roughrider names in an 8 team league is embarrassing to say the least

And all they could come up with to replace it was the redblacks!!?
Joke of a league

Why would you keep the guys who'd bring you back assets? Makes no sense to me since you aren't winning yet anyways.

I have to agree. The trade deadline for the Leafs this year will bring them another 1-2 first round draft picks to go along with what will most likely be a top 10 selection, if not a top 5, so I wouldn't be too worried about these old guys still hanging around. They will be gone in good time.

Just because other leagues do something incredibly dumb I don't see how that's an excuse for the NHL to follow suit.

It's about asset management. A full season of JVR is a lot more enticing than a quarter season and having to sign him or lose him. Leafs already have too many B level NHL ready prospects. They need to package a few creatively with JVR for an elite-level blue-chip type prospect.

Lions and Ti-Cats was a good game last night tho. It's good football. But a 9 team league is tough to get up for. The Lions win the Grey Cup and I can walk outside and wouldn't even know there was a game.

The Canucks win a single playoff game and its mayhem.

I'm a Seahawks (had to throw in another Hawk reference haha) season ticket holder. Rather than a BC Lions.

Tough to make a Thursday pre-season game in Seattle tho. :thumbs down:

May have to give the tix away

Never knew Patrick Roy was French. I just assumed he was a Francophone from Canada. Therefore, a Canadian.

For 4 seasons it was pretty good. They needed to resolve some things as the series went on, reward the viewers for investing their time. Instead they just kept throwing "mysteriuos poop" at us over and over again until there were just too many unexplained balls in the air to keep my interest.
In the end they couldnt tie up all the loose strings and it made for one of the worst finales of all time.
Also, the writers kept assuring us that it wasnt going to end up being a boring and predictable religious angle, yet thats exactly what it ended up being.

We'll need them when we make the playoffs? ( I think we're bottom 5-10 but you don't )

Yeah, this is fair

The rules lend themselves to a fairly offensive and exciting game

I don't love it, but I won't hate on that aspect
