this guy is starting to grow on me, really like his game. He goes all out all the time and can put the puck in the net. Really did not like his image off the ice but after seeing him mature over the last couple years I really enjoy him on and off the ice. He is definitely up for a large raise and around $7 million is not out of the question especially if he puts up another 35+ goals, might even get higher should he make it to FA |

Marchand represents all that it means to be a Bruin. He one of the top goal scorers in the game. Get this done ASAP Sweeney. |

The term on this deal will be the issue. He's a $7 million player today but 7 years from now it will be tough to swallow. |

He deserves a raise to be sure.
If he can keep his nose (large) clean, i can see paying him that.
However, it seems he only has to look dirty at another player and he gets tossed and subsequently suspended. And every time he gets his weenie whacked by the player safety department, he takes a few weeks to recover and find that balance in his game again.
I like Marchand. I still crack up when i see the replay of him using Sedin's face like a punching bag, "cause i felt like it". He's entertaining to watch on a sometimes borderline boring Bruins squad.
I'd never buy his jersey nor do i ever want to see a captain (A or C) letter on his jersey, but he's good for the team and they should re-sign him without question. |

7 x 7 seems like a very reasonable starting point from marchands camp |

Its a good place to start contract negotiations. I would rather see both sides settle on something like 7yr, 45.5M contract (6.5M cap hit). Either way its going to be north of 6M, likely north of 6.5, but a guy can dream.
A 7 year contract will bring him to age 35. Would like to see a deal done before the start of the season to avoid ridiculous rumors. |

Agreed hopefully they can get him to sign a 6.25 or 6.5 for 7 years. I know it's irrelevant, but I Just wish that's what Krejci had been signed to as well.
Then evaluate the development of Vatrano, Pasta, and Spooner, and decide who gets traded for a defensemen. Spooner and Pasta could both be looking at contracts of up to 5 million. Although I guess expansion throws a monkey wrench into how all of this works too...
Just waiting around for the 15th to see if Sweeney can get Vesey |

So that Johnson will be fourth and Filpulla fifth in the depth chart of centers? |

Yeah if only there was a way teams could have centers play on the wing. |

People have a tendency to do this as the progress through their 20's an beyond. I only wish Bruins has foresight to see this on a certain 2 other players.

I've been saying it all along, it'll be the same $6.875 cap hit as Bergeron... but if that doesn't happen I could see it being a little less. The 7 years is the biggest bone of contention for me... I could see Marchand as a guy who has a couple of great $7mil seasons... and then falling more around 20-25 goals or so. I think he still brings a lot to the team, playing all 3 zones, killing penalties, and playing on the PP. But if they could do like a $6.875 x 4 or 5 years, that would be an amazing signing. |

I think his camp will push for 6 or 7, just based on the fact he's stated he would like to be a career Bruin. Just hoping it isn't a 7 year NMC. I'd be okay if it was similar to Chara's contract where the money and cap drops off at the end. |
