I think what you mean to say is that his recovery will coincide with July 1 when he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Stamkos is not becoming a free agent because of the injury. Those two things have nothing to do with each other except that the date of recovery and the date of free agency may coincide. However, if he either comes back sooner or signs with Tampa (or another team if they trade his rights) before July 1, then these two dates will not coincide.
